Last month, it was projected that Singapore would hit 40,000 cases by the end of May, and it turns out that we hit that number only yesterday (13 June).

The goody thing is that as long as the number of new cases is stable, we’re on track to reopen the economy.

And thankfully, today’s still stable.

Today, 407 cases are reported.

This means we now have a total of 40,604 cases in our tiny island.

Out of today’s cases, 9 are community cases, with 4 being Singaporeans or Singapore PRs.

Based on yesterday’s numbers, on average, the number of new cases in the community has increased, from an average of 7 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 8 per day in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased, from an average of 2 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 4 per day in the past week.

Details of today’s cases will be announced at night.

Yesterday, out of the 5 community cases, 1 of them is picked up from as part of MOH’s proactive testing of school students above the age of 12 diagnosed with acute respiratory infection (ARI) at first presentation to a doctor.

She’s a Secondary 4 student from St Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School, and it’s likely that she was infected before school reopens based on her serological test results.

However, she had been in school, so her close contacts in school, comprising 47 other students and 12 staff members, have been put on leave of absence or home quarantine.

All Students Tested Negative

All the students whom she has come in close contact with have all tested negative for the virus. Results for the staff members are not out yet.

According to the director of schools at the Ministry of Education Liew Wei Li, the student was spotted by her form teacher to be unwell “during the daily visual and temperature screening exercise on June 10…The student was immediately isolated and sent home. She has not returned to school since. She was later tested positive for Covid-19.”

The school has since been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, and school will resume as usual on Monday.
