As experts have constantly told us throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, life after lockdowns will be nothing like it used to be.

Some things won’t change because it facilitates transmission of the coronavirus.

Handshakes, for instance, seemed such an innocent, integral part of life. Now, if someone offered their hand to you, you’d back away in disgust as if they just offered you a bowl of dead maggots to eat.

In addition, large gatherings will likely be disallowed for a long time, which means we’ll have to say goodbye to bars, sports events, and nightclubs.

Or will we?

One nightclub in Netherlands has resumed their business but with some strange, new safe-distancing rules in place.

Dutch Nightclub Reopens & People Can Only Dance While Seated with Safe Distancing

Miss dancing with strangers in a dark room filled with loud music blaring from all four corners?

Well, if you live in the city of Nijmegen in Netherlands, there’s a nightclub that you can now go to.

There’s just one snag: you’ll have to dance while sitting down.

While this looks like a still from a dystopian movie where humans are not allowed to touch each other except to procreate, it’s actually a picture of people dancing in Doornroosje, a nightclub in Nijmegen.

After temporarily shutting down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Doornroosje reopened recently with some rather unique safe-distancing rules.

According to Insiderguests are required to dance while seated in chairs that have been spaced out 5 feet.

At the moment, only 30 guests are allowed at a time.

This is in compliance with the country’s public health guidelines, the club’s marketing manager, Koos Hornman said.

This might be good news for those who suck at dancing.. Everyone will be gyrating awkwardly in their seats, it won’t just be you.

Dancing in the Day

Doornroosje owners initially planned to let guests dance while standing like we’ve been doing since human beings started dancing, but government officials ordered the club to set up chairs on the dance floor, reported Insider.

Officials: If you’re going to dance during the Covid-19 pandemic, you’ll have to look really dumb while doing it.

That’s not the only strange thing; the Dutch nightclub now opens in the afternoon instead of its traditional after-dark hours, so people can dance during the day.

Boss: Do you guys want to go clubbing?

Employee: But… it’s 12pm on a workday. Is this a test?

Boss: It certainly is a test, of your dance moves, that is.

Employee: Uh… ok.

Surprisingly, some guests really enjoyed themselves in the new setting.

“Sitting in this setting is, and looks, very strange,” Hornman said.

“However, people really enjoyed being in our venue again and just having a little taste of the atmosphere and the loud music.”

“There were all happy faces after 20 minutes”, he added.

The Situation in the Netherlands

According to Bloomberg, while they were hit very hard early on in the pandemic, the Netherlands have managed to flatten the curve due to lockdown measures.

Now, the government has started lifting coronavirus-related restrictions as infections dwindle.

Outdoor terraces at cafes, bars, and restaurants reopened on 1 June, while beauty salons, hairdressers, cinemas, will soon resume its services.

The lifting of measures in the country will be expanded in stages until 1 Sept, the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutt said.

But this depends on the severity of the outbreak in their country, of course.

The Netherlands have reported fewer than 239 cases in the past week, which is pretty low for a population of 17 million.

Things may not be back to normal in the Netherlands as of yet, but after months of social distancing, dancing while sitting down may not be the worst thing after all.
