It appears that military warfare may soon employ the use of actual golf balls.

After all, they’re just as proficient at damaging humans as their bullet counterparts, as the following piece serves to show.

Though on a serious note, we certainly wouldn’t want to be in this particular man’s shoes.

Man Fractured His Nose After He was Allegedly Hit by Golf Ball at Decathlon Kallang Store

Just yesterday (8 May 2021), Facebook user Michael Kwok posted an eye-opening experience that occurred in Decathlon Singapore Lab.

At around 10:30 p.m. on 7 May, the user was shopping for some sports equipment at a Kallang Decathlon store when “something hard flew over”.

It struck his nose area, causing a loud “thud”.

He felt an “excruciating sharp pain” at his nose. Soon, he felt dizzy, lost his balance and fell.

“A palm-sized puddle of blood started to form beside my face,” Kwok wrote.

Now at this point, you may wonder about the exact nature of this particular object, and how it manages to exude such lethality even at such close range.

“Surely it’s not a golf ball?” you wonder. “Maybe a bazooka?”

No folks, it’s indeed a golf ball. But I’m digressing.

Thankfully, Kwok was able to receive immediate help on the spot, as there was a trained nurse in the area. The ambulance was also promptly summoned.

But even then, it was not a pleasant experience.

“By the time the ambulance came,” he wrote. “I still recalled I felt very cold and was shivering non-stop but was still conscious. I was then sent to SGH A&E.”

Crooked

Kwok would go on to spend around 4 hours at the A & E, but that’s far from the worst part.

No. Rather, it’s that his nose has gone crooked.

Apparently, he had sustained a bone fracture at his nasal bridge.

“The doctor said I would need to wait for a few days for the swelling to subside before going back to the hospital to see an ENT specialist on how best to re-align my nose back,” he wrote.

Following the event, he warned the public about Decathlon’s golf striking trial.

“I am sharing my experience as I want to warn everyone of the potential safety issue when bringing our loved ones to Decathlon which is very a popular family-friendly sports shop,” he wrote.

“I also hope Decathlon can look into this seriously. Why are people allowed to test out striking golf ball with golf club in a closed-up area?? From the golf-testing area to me is actually very far, more than 10-20m away.”

He also echoed a scary thought.

“If the ball had hit my eyes, I would be blinded.”

Apology

According to MothershipDecathlon has since apologised for the incident.

The affiliated golf test zone has also been closed.

Investigations are said to be ongoing.

“We are extremely sorry for the accident that Mr Kwok experienced at the Decathlon Singapore Lab,” Decathlon Singapore Lab stated. “We treat all our customers at Decathlon Singapore as friends and our customers’ safety is of utmost priority to us.

“We are investigating this incident and analysing the footage captured on our in-store CCTV.

“A member of our team has also reached out to Mr Kwok to offer our assistance.

“Our golf test zone in Decathlon Singapore Lab has been closed immediately upon the incident and our teammates are on guard to ensure that all customers have a safe experience in our store.

“While our test stations have prominently displayed precautionary signages, we are now actively reassessing our testing stations and are committed to preventing a similar situation from happening in future.”

Similar Instance

It appears that this is not the first time a golf ball had transcended its core purpose.

On 22 October 2020, a family and their helper were walking the Lost World-esque park connector when they suddenly heard a loud thud.

The next thing they knew, their helper was on her knees, holding her head in evident pain.

Apparently, a golf ball had flown over from the neighbouring Tanah Merah Country Club.
