The man told the victim that whether he wanted to return the money “was his own business”, even though he owed her $12,757.

Here’s what happened.

Lent Him Money to Repay His Debts

The 23-year-old man dated the 21-year-old woman for three years till January 2021. During their relationship, she continuously lent him money so that he could repay his debts, and continued doing so even after they broke up.

The man never repaid her, so in July 2021, they came up with a repayment plan where he would make monthly payments.

On 10 December 2021, she asked about repayment since he didn’t transfer the money for that month. As of December 2021, he owed her $12,757.

When the man ghosted her and ignored her messages, the woman proceeded to tag his Instagram account on her story and said that he owed her money. The man then messaged her and said he would stop repaying her, and threatened to post her nudes online.

He then sent her seven photos and two videos, which showed her in various degrees of nudity when she was changing or showering. In some of the photos and videos, her face could clearly be seen.

It was then discovered that he took the videos when they were still dating, by entering the shower when she was showering. This was despite her telling him not to record anything on his phone.

I guess love truly is blind, since she trusted him and didn’t check his gallery back then.

Victim Made Police Report

The man told the victim that she had willingly lent him money, and he wasn’t obliged to return it to her. He then told her to stop bothering him just because of the money.

After a few days, the victim decided to make a police report at Clementi Neighbourhood Police Centre. By then, the man had already deleted the photos and videos from his phone, and didn’t upload anything.

Following the report, the police arrested him on 26 May 2022. They found one of the nude images on his phone during investigations.

Jailed 12 Weeks

On 7 June, the man pleaded guilty to the offence of threatening to distribute intimate images and recordings that he took without consent.

He could have been jailed for up to five years, fined, and/or caned for his offence.
