In the olden days, Yishun was often the maligned place in Singapore.

Freaky stories. Induced crimes. An entire cow. You’d be lucky to not see Yishun in the newspapers in those days.

But the last couple of years have broken the Yishun curse. With the emergence of the pandemic, the spotlight has finally been shifted away from the residential town, and it’s mostly quaint nowadays.

Much to the relief of property investors in the area, I’m sure.

But it looks like Singapore’s reputable universities might become the next Yishun.

Fraught with indecent activities and cases, the once squeaky-clean universities have since seen their reputation crash to an all-time low. For some reason, university campuses seem to be the breeding grounds for scandalous cases.

National University of Singapore (NUS) makes headlines once more today (12 Apr), but not in a good way.

Yep, you guessed that right: it’s yet another indecent incident.

NUS Student Expelled for Alleged Filming of Sex Acts With 2 Female Students Without Their Consent

According to The Straits Times, yet another NUS student has landed in hot water, though this time not for molest, sexual harassment, peeping or any of the more prevalent instances.

Instead, he has been expelled for the alleged filming of his sexual encounters… without the victims’ consent.

Which, if you think about it, practically falls in the same vein as the aforementioned.

Apparently, two female students were featured in his “visual-scapes”.

According to the news report, the university promptly issued a no-contact order to the student upon learning of the case.

Assistance was also lent towards the victim.

And in February, a board of discipline was assembled to tackle the issue.

The board ultimately decided to cease the student’s candidature with immediate effect, from 10 February 2021.

According to The Parrot Review, the expelled student was a fourth-year undergraduate student who had stayed at Prince George’s Park Residences.

He was allegedly evicted five days after a victim’s complaint.

Previous Instances

Over the last five years, NUS has been embroiled in an unforgiving string of indecent cases, with a majority of them involving sexual misconduct.

The cases only gained prominence, however, after the infamous Monica Baey incident gained traction on the net.

Since then, the university has seen two professors dismissed over instances of sexual misconduct.

Numerous other perpetrators have also been apprehended for sexual harassment, peeping, theft, and other misconduct-related reasons.

In fact, a total of 71 complaints, involving sexual misconduct against students, have been reported in NUS over the last five years.

Clear similarities can also be seen in several cases, though perpetrators were proven to be different.
