The day has finally come where we surpassed the 1,000th mark: Over 1,009 COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday (18 Sept) with Singapore’s 60th COVID-19 death.

1,004 Locally Transmitted Cases

1,004 locally transmitted cases were reported yesterday, 926 of whom are from the community.

The remaining 78 infections are from migrant workers’ dormitories. Among the local cases, 259 are seniors above the age of 60.

Five imported cases were also detected, bringing Singapore’s daily tally to 1,009. This is the highest number since 23 April where 1,037 COVID-19 cases were detected.

Singapore’s 60th COVID-19 Death: 90YO Unvaccinated Man

A 90-year-old Singaporean man passed away on 17 Sep due to COVID-19 complications. He is Singapore’s 60th COVID-19 fatality.

He was conveyed to the National Centre of Infectious Diseases (NCID) on Friday (17 Sep), where he tested positive for COVID-19 infections and passed away that same day.

He had a history of cancer, heart disease and pneumonia. He was also not vaccinated against COVID-19

Two New Large Clusters

Two large clusters were added to the list. The first is Pfizer Asia Pacific. The facility is not involved in vaccine production.

It has a total of 22 cases. 20 of these cases are staff members and the remaining are cleaners. There was also no evidence of transmission beyond the worksite.

The second cluster is a waste management company, NSL OilChem. It has 27 cases, and 25 of the cases are employees. The remaining cases are household contacts of the employees.

10 Large Clusters

There are currently ten large clusters with new cases including Pfizer Asia Pacific and NSL OilChem clusters. Here are the other clusters:

  • Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard – two new cases, 39 in total
  • Blue Stars Dormitory – three new cases, 104 in total
  • Chinatown Complex – three new cases, 270 in total
  • Avery Lodge Dormitory – three new cases, 98 in total
  • Toa Payoh Bus Interchange Staff – five new cases, 251 in total
  • Boon Lay Bus Interchange – three new cases, 237 in total
  • All Saints Home Jurong East – one new case, 14 in total
  • 11 Tuas Ave 10 dormitory – two new cases, 28 in total

863 Cases in Hospitals; 14 in ICU

At present, there are 863 COVID-19 cases warded in the hospital, most of whom are well and under observation.

105 severe cases require oxygen supplementation, and 18 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Of these 123 cases, 100 are above the age of 60.

Our vaccination progress remains at 82%. 84% have received at least one dose.

Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Market & Hawker Centre Closed for Cleaning 

Block 210 Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Market and Hawker Centre is closed for a three-day cleaning after COVID-19 cases were detected among the stallholders and staff there.

The centre’s quarterly spring cleaning session has been brought forward to 17 Sep after COVID-19 cases were detected at the location. The last day of the spring cleaning is today (19 Sep).
