20 Men Fined for Flouting Circuit Breaker Rules As They Left Home for Credit-For-Sex Scams

Even with the Circuit Breaker rules in full force, scammers are still working.

And people are still falling for the scams.

If you’ve subscribed to our YouTube channel, which you really should if not you can do it here, you’d know about this scam that usually preys on men who use the wrong head to think.

Here’s a video we’ve done with the Singapore Police Force to educate our viewers about this scam:

Basically, according to scamalert.sg, here’s how it works:

  • Friend requests from strangers on Facebook, WeChat and iAround, especially if they are offering escort, massage or sexual services.
  • People to profess strong feelings for you quickly after befriending you and who want to chat with you privately.
  • Poorly written messages. Some might even refer to you by the wrong name.
  • Repeated requests for favours or money.

To pay for the services, the victims would buy gift cards and send the details to the scammer.

Needless to say, even after you’ve paid up, you’d remain soft and vulnerable (watch the video to understand why).

But what has this got to do with Circuit Breaker?

Leaving the House for Non-Essential Purposes

According to the police, there were at least 20 men who fell for the credit-for-sex scams between 18 April to 29 April. That, of course, is the time whereby the men should have stayed at home.

It’s unknown if the victims had shot themselves in the foot when they reported the scams.

Other than the total loss of $50,000 by the victims, they were issued a $300 composition fine each for flouting safe distancing regulations under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.

But why, you ask.

Well, for a start, they left the house for non-essential purposes, which is the main reason.

But most importantly, while the police didn’t mention this, this should be noted: these men have the intention to flout the rules.

Because unless one can have a nice, healthy massage while keeping one metre away from each other, they’re essential guilty.

It’s unknown how much each man was scammed, but it’s indeed double whammy for everyone of them.
