With cases continuing to drop, our weekly infection rate has kept falling as well.
Measuring the ratio of community cases in the past week over the week before, this ratio has fallen to 0.93 from 0.96 on Wednesday (3 Nov).
Unfortunately, the number of deaths has not dropped but gone up; in fact, we recorded the highest number of COVID-19 fatalities yesterday (4 Nov) since 20 Oct.
17 COVID-19 Fatalities
17 more COVID-19 cases passed away from complications, bringing our death toll to 459.
Aged between 55 and 93, all 17 fatalities had various underlying medical conditions.
This is the highest number of reported COVID-19 deaths since 20 Oct, when 18 fatalities were reported.
3,003 New COVID-19 Cases
3,003 new COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday (5 Nov), a decrease of 632 from the previous day’s tally.
The cases comprise 2,780 infections in the community, 220 in migrant worker dormitories, and three imported infections.
Among the local cases are 471 seniors above 60.
MOH Closely Monitoring 10 Large Clusters
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said it’s monitoring 10 large clusters with new cases, the largest of which is at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).
With nine new cases, the cluster now has 338 cases comprising 317 patients and 21 staff members.
The Acacia Home cluster swelled to 32 after seven more cases were linked to it. 30 residents and two staff members have been infected there.
Two more cases were also added to the cluster at Jamiyah Home for the Aged in Tampines, taking its total to 50, 43 of whom are residents while the rest are staff members.
One new case each was also added to the seven remaining clusters:
- NTUC Health (Jurong West) Nursing Home – 22 cases
- PCF Sparkletots @ Whampoa Block 85 – 24 cases
- NTUC Health Nursing Home (Geylang East) – 14 cases
- Banyan Home @ Pelangi Village – 94 cases
- Orange Valley Nursing Home (Clementi) – 19 cases
- PCF Sparkletots @ Changi Simei Block 141 – 16 cases
- ECON Medicare Centre & Nursing Home (10 Buangkok View Block 9) – 35 cases
1,683 COVID-19 Cases in Hospital; 138 in ICU
At the moment, there are 1,683 COVID-19 cases warded in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.
286 serious cases require oxygen supplementation and 138 are in the intensive care unit, comprising 66 cases who are unstable and under close monitoring, and 72 who are critically ill and intubated.
Over the past seven days, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who have been critically ill in the ICU are at 0.5 and 4.7 per 100,000 population respectively.
The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 1.8 and 37.4 respectively.
Over the same period, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who died are 0.1 and 0.9 per 100,000 population respectively.
The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 0.4 and 8.2 respectively.
Currently, 85% of our population has been fully vaccinated and 85% have received at least one dose. 17% have received their booster shots.
76 People Caught Flouting COVID-19 Rules Over Last Week
From 27 Oct to 2 Nov, 76 were caught breaching COVID-19 regulations at various hawker centres.
Offences included not wearing masks, gathering in groups of more than two, and people dining out even though they weren’t fully vaccinated.
The National Environmental Agency (NEA) said it has been stepping up checks at hawker centres and reminded members of the public to adhere to safe management measures and vaccination-differentiated measures.
