A 59-year-old Singaporean passed away from a heart attack on the first day of his trip to Thailand. This was despite him being a healthy man who swam ten laps daily.

Here’s what happened.

59-year-old Singaporean Passes Away from Heart Attack on the First Day of Thailand Trip

On Monday (27 February), a 59-year-old Singaporean, Mr Wu (hanyu pinyin), took a flight with his friends expecting a fun-filled four days and three nights in Thailand. It was his first trip since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yet, their trip was cut short before it even began.

On the first night of their arrival, Mr Wu suddenly felt discomfort in his chest after dinner. On the way back to the hotel, the 59-year-old suddenly collapsed.

That night, Mr Wu passed away from a heart attack.

Deceased was Healthy; Swam 10 Laps Daily

When you think of a heart attack, you might envision those obese cartoon characters with fries in one hand and a coke in another that we used to see in physical education textbooks.

Yet, reality differs.

Mr Wu was far from the stereotypical school textbook cartoon character. According to the deceased’s wife, Mrs Wu, no problems surfaced during the 59-year-old’s regular health checkups, aside from some thyroid problems.

Even when Mr Wu arrived at the Thai hospital on the night of his heart attack, the doctor affirmed that Mr Wu was in good health.

He was, in fact, in good health and probably exercised more than most of us do!

Driven by a love for sports, the 59-year-old used to swim ten laps every morning around a swimming pool nearby his home.

Now, when was the last time you exercised?

Wife Arranging for Deceased’s Body to be Brought Back to Singapore

Once Mrs Wu learned about her husband’s passing, she immediately flew to Thailand to learn more about the situation.

However, not everything went smoothly.

Her husband’s insurance company required a few days to arrange for the deceased’s body to be returned to Singapore (as insurance companies always do).

Mrs Wu, however, couldn’t wait. Hence, she arranged for her husband’s body to be returned to Singapore and paid for it out of her pocket.

Whether her husband’s insurance company will eventually pay for these arrangements remains unclear.

Deceased was the Breadwinner in a Family of Five

The deceased was the breadwinner to a family of five and a father to three daughters. While his youngest daughter is still in university, his oldest daughter is pregnant.

Not only that, but Mr Wu was also a family man.

Mrs Wu shared that the 59-year-old planned to sell his current car next year and buy a seven-seater car instead to take his future grandchildren out on drives.

She also described her husband as helpful, accompanying friends to see the doctor and such. He was also a generous and easygoing person.

Given his impact on those around him, many naturally mourned him. Several neighbours expressed their condolences, with many in disbelief at his passing.

Still, think the recent healthcare initiatives like Nutri-Grade are not to be taken seriously?

Maintaining physical wellness always comes back to having a healthy mind and body.

To ensure you maintain a healthy body, you should not only get an appropriate amount of exercise, but you should also watch your eating habits.

And yes, even if it means giving up bubble tea, it must be done. At least there’s Nutri-Grade B Yakult as a replacement now.

Always remember, health is wealth!
