6 People Injured After SBS Bus Crashed Into a Tree; Bus Captain Has Since Been Suspended

Yesterday was the most commercialised day of the year: Christmas day. As trees are decorated with thousands of lights and other decorations, some trees remained bare for they are merely home to birds.

However, one tree was not so fortunate this Christmas for it was banged by an SBS bus.

6 People Injured After SBS Bus Crashed Into a Tree; Bus Captain Has Since Been Suspended

On the holiest day of the year, 25 Dec, six people experienced a mishap at about 11 am. The ride they were on crashed into a tree on Christmas Day.

The SBS bus they travelled on was on a slip road from the Tampines Expressway towards the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE).

Driver was Trapped

The 40-year-old driver was trapped in his seat and could not free himself. Officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force had to use hydraulic rescue equipment to free the driver.

He was then transported to Changi General Hospital for treatment.

The other five passengers, aged 27 to 55, who were injured were taken to Sengkang General Hospital for treatment.

From the widely circulated photos and videos, the front of the bus was caved in. Its side window next to the driver’s seat was also shattered.

The tree which the bus kissed forcefully does not seem to be impacted much but it does look annoyed having a bus rear-end it. That’s one strong tree, indeed.

Bus Captain Suspended

The bus captain was suspended and pending police investigations. SBS Transit is in touch with the five passengers, helping the victims as best as they can.

A spokesman for SBS Transit said their main priority is the well-being of the five passengers who were transported to the hospital.

Christmas Day Hit-and-Run

This isn’t the first time an accident made the news during Christmas day.

In 2019, there was also a road accident on Christmas da and it involved an Asia Ocean Pacific lorry which rear-ended another vehicle.

That won’t make the news except that the driver decided to impersonate the roadrunner and made a run for it. He even beat the red light while fleeing the scene.

Eventually, the company, Asia Ocean Pacific posted an apology on Facebook saying that it has “no tolerance” for “irresponsible” employees who do not abide by the law.
