897 COVID-19 Cases in S’pore Today (24 Apr); First Time This Week to Hit 3-Digit

Yesterday, we finally got to know why we’re now seeing the number of new daily cases in the afternoon instead of at night: a 35-year-old woman has leaked the number last week on a WeChat group, which eventually ended up on an Instagram story.

Although it’s not confirmed that MOH has decided to reveal the numbers earlier nowadays due that incident, as MOH has mentioned they’re now revealing the numbers earlier due to “public interest”, at least having a timing to look forward to daily is much better than staying up late just to see if we’re making any progress as we stay home to have Maggi Mee even more.

And now is afternoon.

For the first time this week, we’re seeing 3-digit new cases instead: today, 897 new cases were announced.

Of this, 13 of them are Singaporeans or Singapore PRs.

Yesterday, the number of Singaporeans or Singapore PRs is  22—different from the 21 mentioned in the afternoon as contact tracing found 1 more case.

Nevertheless, based on yesterday’s numbers, the average number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 34 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 25 per day in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has decreased slightly, from an average of 20 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 18 per day in the past week.

Most of today’s new cases are Work Permit holders residing in dormitories.

Most Patients Now in Community Facilities

With better understanding of the disease, MOH has “re-categorised the confirmed cases to more accurately reflect where the confirmed cases are being cared for.”

That being said, 8,874 patients are now isolated and cared for at community facilities, with the rest in hospitals instead.

26 are now in ICU, and 12 have passed away due to complications caused by COVID-19 infection.

A 46-year-old Indian national who died in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital yesterday has not passed away due to COVID-19 infection, and police investigations are still ongoing to determine his cause of death.
