Heck, I can even know what you’re thinking now:

OMG, McDonald’s closed down a few outlets after a few employees were tested positive for COVID-19, and then now all stores are closed. Does that mean I’d have to go to Sheng Siong now? I got NTUC Plus! Card leh, I want the points leh…

Don’t worry, you should be thankful that you’re not one of the many who merely skimmed through headlines and then peed in your pants.

Reader Bao: So it’s nothing to do with COVID-19?

No one knows yet, but if there’s anything to learn, it’s that Yishun’s back in the news.

Read on and you’d understand.

A FairPrice Outlet in Yishun Suddenly Closing on 27 April 2020

A few hours ago, this was posted in Orchid Country Club Facebook Page:

Lest you can’t read:

??????? ?? ????????? ??????????? ?? ???

We would like to announce that ????????? ?? ?????? ??????? ???? will be closing its physical retail store permanently from ?? ????? ???? (???) and converting it into an online warehouse.

Please refer to the map below for nearby FairPrice supermarkets.

We apologise for the short notice and the inconvenience caused.

(Please note that in an earlier draft of the post, it was mentioned that it would be converted into an online warehouse; Orchid Country Club has confirmed with Goody Feed that the information has been changed and the Facebook post has been amended accordingly as well)

And the image that comes with it:

Orchid Country Club is a club that every Yishunite would know about: it’s a large country club with a golf course, and many people staying in the north usually go to the club for its bowling alley and the supermarket.

In fact, it’s also a popular place for wedding dinners.

Since the Circuit Breaker period, only three places there are open:

  • Its hotel
  • NTUC FairPrice
  • A Japanese restaurant and Subway

Come 27 April 2020, that list would be shortened.

There’s no mention of whether it’s due to COVID-19 or it’s been planned a while back.

Nevertheless, Yishun isn’t been having a good week so far.

3 Cleaners Diagnosed with COVID-19 in Northpoint City

On 17 April 2020, Northpoint City, which is just next Yishun MRT Station and not within walking distance from Orchid Country Club, said that three of their cleaners have unfortunately come down with COVID-19 on 14 and 15 April.

They had worked on the South wing of the mall.

The mall has since been disinfected.

Well, no wonder Popeyes suddenly announced that they’d be doing a cleaning of their outlet in Northpoint:
