US Vice-President Ignored Mask Policy When Visiting Hospital Coz He Wanted to ‘Look Them in The Eyes’

Most people are scared of COVID-19 and intelligent enough to follow common-sense measures in a pandemic, right?

Well-informed-reader: Actually, a lot of people were found without masks just in Singapore.

Well, that’s just a small number of people. I’m sure collectively as a whole, humanity is doing their best-

Well-informed-reader: Actually, it’s even worse overseas and there are even protests against the pandemic measures.

Nonono, I’m sure at the very least leaders will set a good example and correct their behavi-

Well-informed-reader: A Member of Parliament went down to a hawker to distribute masks to wayang despite there being no need to do so and Singaporeans already told to stay home as much as possible.

I’m sure it’s just a mistake, and we’re a small country with limited capabilities. I’m sure the more well-equipped countries will do better on this front.

FFS WHAT IS IT THIS TIME.

Vice President Of The United States Visits Hospital Without Mask

See something wrong with the image above? Vice-President Mike Pence is the only person in this image of officials visiting a hospital to not wear a mask.

When asked about why isn’t he wearing a mask, Pence said that he is tested for the coronavirus regularly, as well as everybody around him.

“And since I don’t have the coronavirus I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to be here to be able to speak to these researchers, these incredible health-care personnel and look them in the eye and say, ‘thank you’.”

Well-informed-reader: But, the mask covers the mouth and noses, not the eyes.

Not according to one of The New Yorker cover, no.

It is well known that asymptomatic carriers of the coronavirus can still infect other people. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings. (Wear the proper way and not The New Yorker way, of course.)

And that is exactly the reason why we Singaporeans must wear a mask in public.

The Hospital Had Told The Vice President To Wear One

Mayo Clinic, the hospital that Pence visited, tweeted that they had informed him about their masking policy.

The tweet was deleted just half an hour after posting.

Pence was also asked by another reporter how frequently he is tested, and what about the “positive signal to the American public” that wearing a mask might send.

Pence basically ignored the question and answered “on a regular basis”, and continued, “And I agree with the CDC guidance that wearing a mask doesn’t necessarily protect you from the coronavirus, but wearing a mask might prevent you from inadvertently conveying the virus to a loved one, family member or friend.

“So we think they’re very useful in that respect, and we respect that altogether.”

Uhhhh.

This Behaviour Is… Kinda Expected Though?

We’re talking about a person who touches the “Do Not Touch” panel just because.

In case you’re thinking it’s harmless, that’s in a NASA facility. Equipment like that might be incredibly sensitive to electrostatic discharge (which can occur just from touching), or they might need to be extremely clean, even from minute traces of oils from human skin.

Pence had also driven a motorcade to an island where vehicles were banned in order to protect nature, and on another occasion said that “smoking doesn’t kill“.

I have no words.
