Following the much-anticipated launch of the iPhone 15, Singaporeans and international visitors are still lining up outside Courts and the Apple Store on Orchard Road.
While Apple’s newest gadget has generated buzz for its upgraded performance, better camera, and top-notch display, there’s a hot topic on everyone’s minds, as some users report overheating issues.
Since the iPhone 15 hit the market on 22 September, users have taken to social media and forums to complain about their devices heating up during tasks like charging, scrolling through social media, and gaming.
This has ignited global attention, even among prospective iPhone users who have yet to lay their hands on the device but are contemplating their iPhone 15 purchase.
Apple Claims Some Apps Like Instagram Are Causing iPhone 15 to Overheat
Well, the claims from reports and users proved to be accurate; the iPhone 15 indeed has issues leading to overheating.
On Saturday (30 September), Apple officially acknowledged the issue, stating they had identified a few factors contributing to the iPhone 15 running hotter than anticipated.
Among these factors is a bug in the iOS 17 software, which is set to be rectified in an upcoming update.
Apple also stated, “Another issue involves some recent updates to third-party apps that are causing them to overload the system. We’re working with these app developers on fixes that are in the process of rolling out.”
In addition, Apple has identified that recent updates to specific third-party apps, including Instagram, Asphalt 9, and Uber, have been overloading the system.
The company is working alongside these developers to address and resolve these issues.
Good news for folks with the new iPhone 15 and enjoy daily scrolling on Instagram, as the app resolved its issues on 27 September.
Apple reassured users that the upcoming iOS 17 bug fix will not compromise device performance as it tackles the overheating problems.
They emphasised that there are no safety concerns for iPhone users, and these issues will not have any long-term impact on the device’s performance.
No Link Between Design and Overheating
You might be curious why some users came up with the theory that the new design of the iPhone 15 made it more susceptible to overheating.
Well, this speculation stems from the fact that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max feature a redesigned titanium enclosure with an aluminium frame designed to enhance repairability.
Apple clarified that the overheating issue in the new models is unrelated to the titanium chassis design. In fact, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max benefit from the new titanium shells, as they enhance heat dissipation compared to the previous stainless steel models.
As reported by Must Share News, the iPhone 15 launch saw lengthy queues forming outside the Courts store on Orchard Road, with many eager Apple fans even lining up a day in advance.
Customers eagerly awaiting the new iPhone 15 sat on the pavement outside the store, with barriers in place to maintain order and structure in the line.
The queue was so long that Courts staff distributed bottled water to those in the line as they observed the crowd density increasing throughout the evening.
Interestingly, most of those in line were international visitors, primarily from Vietnam. The reason is that the iPhone 15 was set to release in Vietnam on 29 September, a week after its launch in Singapore.
