Do you know that Donald Trump has just joined TikTok?
Yes, the former president joined TikTok on 1 June 2024, despite his previous attempts to ban the app while in office. His first post was a 13-second video clip filmed at a UFC event, where he expressed it was his “honour” to join TikTok.
His second video is a teaser to a podcast with Logan Paul (yes, that Logan Paul), and as of now, he only has two videos, and yet has over 6.5 million followers and 8.8 million likes.
Another person has just TikTok, too, with almost the same results: she has two videos as of now as well, with 6.1 million followers and 12.5 million likes.
It’s none other than Backpink’s Jennie.
Blackpink’s Jennie started her personal verified TikTok account (@jennierubyjane) on 17 June 2024.
Within just 1 hour of launching, she had already amassed over 100,000 followers.
Her first TikTok video, posted on 19 June, quickly went viral. It showed her wearing the jersey of German football club Hamburg and striking different poses to the tune of her debut solo single, Solo.
That video has since garnered 48.3 million views.
Jennie is the third member of BLACKPINK to launch an individual TikTok account, following bandmates Lisa and Rosé.
Lisa had joined TikTok earlier in June 2024 and gained 1 million followers in record time, even faster than the previous record held by BTS.
Rosé was actually the first BLACKPINK member to open a personal TikTok back in 2021 and holds the record for most video views among K-pop artists on the platform.
Fans are speculating that Jennie’s TikTok debut, like Lisa’s, may be hinting at an upcoming solo music release, especially since she has teased about a new album.
However, I don’t know about you, but has there been a trend of public figures joining TikTok when it’s now facing the prospect of being banned?
I mean, even Joe Biden’s campaign has joined TikTok.
The world really works in a weird way.
