There are three scary things that may happen when we are asleep.

They are mainly:

  • Sleep paralysis (The state where one loses the ability to move some or all of your body)
  • Nightmares and hallucinations
  • Being jolted awake in a sudden manner

However, having an insect crawl in your ear while sleeping sounds rather terrifying as well.

And that is unfortunately exactly what happened to one man recently.

A fly flew into Class95 DJ Justin Ang’s ear in New York

In a series of Instagram stories that are now permanently on his highlights reel, Justin Ang recounted his recent terrifying experience.

We all know how jet lag can be a problem for anyone who travels across time zones. It’s only natural for one to feel tired.

On his first night in New York, Ang went to bed after feeling jet-lagged.

Everything was peaceful until he felt something crawling into his ears.

At around 3am, he jumped out of bed to try to shake the insect out to no avail. Not only so, Ang could also hear it buzzing inside his ears.

It then started to “hit his ear drum”.

Ever wondered how it feels like to have an insect in your eardrum? Well, Ang said that it “hurts like f***”.

Justin’s wife then tried to pour water into his ears to force the insect out. Unfortunately, the fly was literally still bugging him.

No pun intended. IYKYK.

Went to emergency room in New York University Hospital

Justin and his wife then made their way to the emergency room in a local hospital at New York. A trainee doctor looked into Ang’s ear canal and tried to get it out.

Two hours later, after countless tries, the bug was still inside his ear. What a bummer.

According to Ang, “everything felt very Grey’s Anatomy“..

Ang also cited that the doctors had inevitably pushed the insect even deeper to his ear canal. That resulted in even more pain for him.

Ear, nose, & throat (ENT) team roped in

After five whole hours, the hospital’s ENT surgical team utilised a suction tool to pull the bug out.

If you’ve been reading on till the point just to find out what insect was bugging Justin, here’s your answer.

It was a dance fly, a kind of insect that is completely harmless that does not bite people or animals.

When it was extracted out of Justin’s ear, the wings were soaked in his blood. It also had a very long mouth with spiked legs.

Must have hurt real bad.

But at least its legs were lovely.
