Do you like chocolates?
There are many kinds of chocolates in this world. We have those gold chocolate coins that we were given when we were kids. Something about it resembling a coin always made many kids fascinated. I thought it was pretty cool too, but I never liked eating it. It somehow just tasted… off.
And then we have the common brands like Cadbury with their entire bar of chocolates that you had to break yourself before eating.
And then there are Mars and Snickers bars that are so sweet yet so sinful.
And then we have the classic KitKat with the slogan that we’ve all heard way too many times, “have a break, have a KitKat”.
They’re small and they’re easy to eat. Before you know it, you would have already devoured the entire packet of the chocolate-coated wafer biscuits.
Are you a fan of local delights?
In case you’re confused, this question is relevant to what we’re going to talk about next.
Are you a fan of Singapore Laksa, Roti Prata with Fish Curry and Nyonya Bubur Cha Cha?
Well, what if I told you that you could enjoy both chocolates and those local delights?
Editor: Uhh… I mean… Don’t we all already do that?
No no. What I mean is, what if I told you that could enjoy both your favourite chocolate-coated wafer biscuits and those local delights together.
Editor: Uhh… What??
KitKat has just announced that they will be launching eight new flavours of chocolates in celebration of Christmas! Of those eight, five of them are inspired by local delights.
So What Are The New Flavours?
Well, there’s three from the Singapore Limited Edition range, another three from the Singapore Christmas Edition range, and the last two will be from the Special Edition range.
Singapore Limited Edition
First up, we have Singapore Laksa. Said to have been inspired by 328 Katong Laksa, there’s apparently taupok (fried beancurd) and even laksa leaves in the chocolate.
I really wonder how that would taste. Will it still have the richness and slight spiciness?
Next, we have Roti Prata with Fish Curry. Roti Prata tastes so good with some delicious Fish Curry, but how would it fare as chocolate?
Would the wafer be similar to the crispy artisanal crepe that we’re used to? And will the chocolate coating the wafer have a slight spice to it?
And lastly, we have Nyonya Bubur Cha Cha. This sounds like it will taste pretty alright and normal seeing as to how it’s actually a dessert. There will be some coconut toppings on the KitKat, so perhaps that would give it more authenticity?
Singapore Christmas Editions
There’s going to be a Tiramisu flavoured KitKat and the wafer is going to come sprinkled with crushed roasted hazelnuts.
There’s also going to be Mrs Claus’ Christmas Fruit Cake which is essentially mixed fruits with a combination of cinnamon and nutmeg.
And then there’s going to be Santa’s Gingerbread Men which will have a strong hint of ginger spices and cinnamon.
Festive.
Special Editions
If you’re a fan of Rose Bandung, you’ll want to sit up for this because that’s going to be one of the Special Edition flavours. This wafer biscuit will have its chocolate coat infused with some rose flavoured extract and will then be sprinkled with rose petals and raspberry to give it that extra sweetness.
The other Special Edition flavour is Cendol Durian.

Yum.
It’s going to have durian, gula melaka and coconut. Perhaps this wouldn’t be as strong as the usual durians that we eat, so even the non-lovers of durians can try this! But hey, don’t take my word for it because I love durians.
Other than these flavours, the popular Singapore Chilli Crab and Kopitiam Breakfast flavours will be back this time for sale. So if you’re a fan of these flavours, do make sure you drop by to get a taste!
