Remember back in the days where shopping malls are the to-go places for everything?
From dating to killing time comfortably, shopping malls are the places we can hang out safely.
These days, shopping malls are the places to avoid especially if you’ve journeyed to the west.
As of 22 May, there are now 10 cases linked to the JEM and Westgate.
And the authorities aren’t going to stand by and do nothing.
Everything About the Closure of JEM & Westgate for 2 Weeks Summarised for You
From 23 May, 7am to 6 June, 7am, JEM will be temporarily closed. There will be no access to the malls for the members of the public during this period.
As for Westgate, the mall will be closed from 23 May to 5 June.
Both malls are closed during this period for cleaning and disinfection.
If you are trying to take a shorter route to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital through Westgate, that route is still accessible by the public. The office towers at these locations will also remain open.

Do note that there is a “likely ongoing transmission” of COVID-19 among visitors of JEM & Westgate Malls.
Thus, members of the public that have been to these 2 malls are required to monitor their health closely for 14 days from their date of visit.
Additionally, free COVID-19 Tests are offered to those that had been to JEM or Westgate malls between 10 to 14 May.
Staff members of these malls will have separate testing arrangements.
Shops at JEM and Westgate Mall
Shops at these 2 shopping malls have also posted on their Facebook pages, informing the public about the closures of their outlets in these malls.
Aside from the shops, the cinema is closed as well. Cathay Cineplexes informed their customers that they will be arranging refunds for those who bought tickets at their JEM outlet.

22 May Cases
On 22 May, 29 COVID-19 cases were reported, and out of these, 22 were community cases.
7 of the community cases are currently unlinked. Almost half of the unlinked cases have been to Westgate.
2 were detected through the mass testing operation for people who have been to the two Jurong malls, while 1 was detected after he sought medical treatment in a clinic after experiencing symptoms.
The 3 cases are:
- A 30-year-old male Singaporean who works as an engineer at Sembcorp Marine.
- A 54-year-old male Singaporean who works as a warehouse manager at Sony Electronics Pte Ltd.
- A 24-year-old male Malaysian national who works as a kitchen assistant at Fun Toast in Westgate Tower.
The 54-year-old man was fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
21 May Cases
On 21 May, 40 COVID-19 cases were reported, and out of these, 30 were community cases.
8 of the community cases are currently unlinked.
2 were detected due to the mass testing operation for people who have been to JEM or Westgate from 10 May to 14 May.
The 2 cases are:
- A 29-year-old male Indian national who works as a sales personnel at Platinum Yoga.
- A 20-year-old female Singaporean who is a student at the National University of Singapore, and part-time retail staff at Hijabville.
The student developed a sore throat, runny nose and cough on 13 May, but did not seek medical attention.
19 May Case
On 19 May, 34 COVID-19 community cases were reported. There was only 1 case linked to the malls.
The sole case was:
- A 45-year-old male Singaporean who is a Safe Distancing Ambassador deployed at Westgate.
He developed a cough and sore throat on 15 May, as well as a runny nose and body aches on 17 May, but did not seek medical treatment until 18 May at a polyclinic. The man received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on 29 March and the second dose on 25 April.
