It doesn’t matter whether you’re a young fellow who goes to Tiktok a few hours a day or you’re an elderly who checks out Facebook every day: you’d know about the McDonald’s outlet in the Singapore Science Centre.
After all, the space in front of it is where you fell in during an “excursion trip” when you were in primary school, and the restaurant is the go-to after a visit to a place to learn more about atoms.
It’s always crowded, just like the KFC in the Singapore Zoo, but it doesn’t matter: the place’s not for you to have a meal. It has become a place to show your kids where you used to buy all your toys.
But now, this iconic place is going to be gone soon.

Everything About the Impending Closure of the Iconic McDonald’s in Science Centre
Yesterday, Mothership.sg ran a report that made mothers all go “shit!”
One of their readers spotted this:
If you can’t read:
Dear Customers,
Please note that our Singapore Science Centre restaurant will cease their operation on 22 March 2020, 5:00pm
It’s followed by a list of other nearby McDonald’s outlets, but who cares?!
McDonald’s has responded but didn’t reveal the reason on why it has closed. They said, “Our restaurant at Science Centre Singapore will cease operations on Sunday, 22 March. Although store closures and openings are commonplace in our industry and also part of our continued growth plan, it’s especially sad for us to say goodbye to one of Singapore’s iconic McDonald’s restaurants.
“It has been a pleasure serving and interacting with visitors at Science Centre Singapore over the past 20 years. We look forward to serving them at our other restaurants.”
It’s unknown what company would take over, but trust me: it’s going to be different.
However, it’s almost certain that an F&B outlet will take over; over at the place whereby we learn more about cells, there’s no other F&B outlet except Coffee Bee, and as the name suggests, it sells primarily coffee and snacks.
The other F&B outlets are in Snow City and further at Jurong East Central, which are within walking distance but would take about 5 to 10 minutes to reach.
In other words, we can only wait until 23 March 2020 to see what’s going to take over.
