With people going back to the office, online purchases are, sometimes, left outside the gate until the owners return home.
While not the safest, most would say that the items would still be there when they reach home.
That is, unless they’ve met with petty thieves like the man we are going to talk about.
foodpanda Rider Caught Stealing Items Outside Door Like He’s Shopping in NTUC FairPrice
On 5 July 2023, TikTok user @ginerfilms uploaded a short video onto the social media platform.
It shows a foodpanda rider looking through online shopping packages outside a flat.
Unfortunately, the rider did not know that the doorbell acts as a CCTV too.
He was seen casually sifting through the two packages conveniently placed outside.
The foodpanda rider also looked at the information sticker carefully.
And, of course, the final test, the squeeze. The test our moms do at the fruits section.
The foodpanda rider then picked up one of the packages and walk away swiftly.
According to the OP, the doorbell she uses is a Google Nest doorbell.
Several other commenters also said that they’ve had their own unique experiences with their own CCTV door bells.
One said that he had fun speaking out of the intercom when people start “acting funny” outside the door. Another recounted how she foiled a potential plant robbery.
Man Stolen Leather Mats Worth S$18
According to MS News, the foodpanda rider had stolen two pieces of leather mats worth S$18.
The Shopee delivery was made while the OP was at work.
The delivery was marked as completed on the app even though she has not received the item.
That was when she decided to check the footage.
The incident was reported to foodpanda and the police.
foodpanda has also responded to the incident:
“Foodpanda does not condone any criminal activity and prompt action including potential suspension, blacklist or termination, will be taken against delivery partners who are found breaking the law.”
They have managed to identify the foodpanda rider and has since terminated his rider account.
Maybe it’s time for us to look into getting a CCTV doorbell too? After all, it’s not just to catch petty thieves but to catch unruly neighbours in the act as well.
