When we go to another country, whether it’s for a holiday or to settle down, we carry with us the belief that locals will treat us well.
But, as you know, this doesn’t always happen, and there’s nothing much you can do about it except bring it to the public’s attention.
The only thing we can control is how we treat people when they come to Singapore from abroad.
But some of us weren’t very nice recently, according to a Korean mother and daughter.
Korean Tourists Claimed They Were Treated Rudely at a COVID-19 Screening Centre in S’pore
The two women claimed in a YouTube video that they were mistreated at a COVID-19 screening facility during their recent trip to Singapore.
They had come to celebrate the older woman’s birthday, but the encounter left them angry.
According to the daughter, known as Bunny, the incident occurred at a hospital where they were queuing for a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on the day they completed their quarantine.
Bunny said that she and her mother had to wait for over two hours, as they had not made an appointment.
At one point, she left the queue to fill in their personal details, but told a young woman that she would be back in a moment, and asked the woman to help keep her place.
Soon after, she noticed a commotion in the queue involving her mother. She found out that her mother had left the queue because her legs were aching, but when she returned, the young woman claimed she never saw Bunny’s mother in the queue.
She allegedly also told one of the staff members that Bunny’s mother had cut in line.
When others in the queue heard what had happened, they demanded that Bunny’s mother go to the back of the queue, with some of them allegedly pushing and tugging at her.
It’s only when Bunny explained the situation in Mandarin to a staff member that they were told to go to the front of the queue.
But the ordeal wasn’t over, according to Bunny.
Seemed to be Scolding them in Mandarin
Bunny said that some of those in the queue were still unhappy and seemed to be scolding them in Mandarin while gesticulating at them. Others apparently stared.
“How would (those people) feel if they were scolded in South Korea and were scolded in Korean?” Bunny questioned.
Bunny claims that the young woman who allegedly pretended not to know that her mother was in the queue is a Singaporean, though it’s unclear how she came to learn this.
“How can they do this, how can they be so cold-blooded to foreigners?” Bunny’s mother said. The couple added that they’ve been to Taiwan and said such a thing would never happen there.
