High-rise littering that can heavily injure a passer-by or even take his or her life. When it comes to the accusation of such a dangerous act, one should never bend the truth just to get out of trouble.

However, it seems like this guy did not get the memo.

Man Jailed After Injuring Himself & Telling Friend to Make a Police Report That He Was Hit by Killer Litter

On 11 August last year, Watson Tan told Leon Lim Jun Xiang he needed to “escape punishment” from the halfway house (a community-based residential facility for offenders who have been allowed to serve part of their sentence under supervision in the community) by admitting himself to the hospital so that he could avoid returning there.

He was released from Changi Prison to Teen Challenge (Singapore) in Chua Chu Kang as part of an early release scheme under a home detention order. He was convicted of drug consumption and possession then.

It is unspecified what he would be punished for at the halfway house. However, Lim understood that Tan wanted to “avoid some test” and he may be “kept for another two years” if he escaped.

Tan then asked Lim to hit him on the head with a beer bottle. This is so that he can escape punishment and get warded in a hospital instead.

At first, Lim was hesitant to his Tan, after all, who in the right mind would hit someone in the head if they are neither drunk nor in an argument.

However, after much persuasion and persistence, Lim agreed.

The Incident

They went to Lim’s house along Sumang Lane in Punggol. Tan retrieved two beer bottles from the delivery lorry and hit himself in the head.

Lim followed through with the plan and hit Tan in the head too since Tan felt that the injury was not severe enough.

It seems like Tan was dazed after he was hit twice in the head for he still felt that his injury was not severe enough. So he smashed his head against the lorry. This resulted in a deep cut.

Satisfied with his wound injury, Lim called the authorities to inform them that someone threw a beer bottle from a high floor and it hit Tan.

Tan then smashed the bottle on the curb to ensure it was shattered to pieces.

Tan was taken to Changi General Hospital.

Lim then gave the authorities a statement, saying that Tan and Lim met for dinner and while they were conversing, he saw a “white item landing on top of (Tan’s) head”. That item turned out to be a plastic bag containing a broken beer bottle.

70 Man-hours Consumed

Due to this incident, 70 man-hours were consumed as 20 officers were tasked to probe the matter.

The truth was only unfolded when Police camera footage was viewed. Lim was spotted with a plastic bag and that bag had a receipt in it.

The officer went to a store at Funan mall to enquire about the receipt and it was revealed that Tan had bought phone accessories previously and the bag belonged to him.

The case was debunked after the authorities re-interviewed the two men.

Who says the 200K Police cameras around Singapore were not needed.

Jailed for False Information

Lim was jailed for a week while Tan was jailed for three weeks after he pleaded guilty to lying to the police.

They could have been jailed for up to two years or fined.
