Since the start of the pandemic, if someone in Singapore contracted COVID-19 and was detected by the authorities, you’d know almost everything about them.
This includes where they work, how old they are, and when they fell ill.
But due to our shift to a new phase of the pandemic, this will no longer be necessary.
MOH No Longer Releasing Details of COVID-19 Community Cases in Daily Virus Update But Will Focus on Vaccination Progress
MOH will no longer release details of COVID-19 community cases here as Singapore shifts to a new phase of battling the pandemic.
Now, its daily coronavirus update will reveal the daily case count, detail our vaccination progress, and give a breakdown of the number of people who have become severely ill from COVID-19 and their vaccination status.
MOH explained that its new press release format reflected the country’s move into “a new phase of battling the pandemic, with a strong focus on preventing the virus from spreading, vaccinating our population and starting the process to transit to a new normal”.
“Besides daily numbers, we will include information on the key trends of the local situation, clusters we are monitoring, progress of vaccination and the number of people who suffered a severe form of the disease,” the ministry added.
Vaccination Progress
According to yesterday’s COVID-19 update, the authorities have administered a total of 5.38 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme.
About 3.28 million people in Singapore have received at least one dose of the vaccine so far, meaning around 57.5% of Singapore’s population has been partially vaccinated.
36.8% of the country has been fully vaccinated, as 2.1 million people here have already received two vaccine doses.
MOH: Evidence Shows Vaccination Helps Prevent Serious Disease From COVID-19
MOH added that there’s continuing evidence that vaccination helps to prevent serious disease when one gets infected.
Over the last 28 days, 23 local cases required oxygen supplementation, were admitted to ICU, or passed away.
20 of these cases were unvaccinated and two were partially vaccinated. The last patient was fully vaccinated, but was ill before infection.
129 Cases in Hospitals
At the moment, there are 129 COVID-19 cases in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.
However, there are 11 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and three are in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).
There are currently 34 active COVID-19 clusters in the country, ranging between three and 91 infections.
The biggest active cluster is the one at 115 Bukit Merah View Market & Food Centre, with 91 infections.
