Lest you didn’t know because you’ve lost count of dates after staying at home for so long, yesterday was the first day of home-based learning.

In other words, all primary school students need not go to school yesterday, and they’re all supposed to come back to school today.

The whole idea of home-based learning days, which oldies like us remembered them as “e-learning days”, is to prepare everyone for “more home-based learning days”—in other words, prepare for school shutdown lah if it ever occurred.

Students and parents of Palm View Primary School experienced that much earlier than anyone else.

Primary School Near Sengkang Closed 1 More Day After Student Tested Positive for COVID-19

Palm View Primary School is a primary school located at Compassvale, near Sengkang Road and Buangkok MRT Station.

And just like all primary schools, students didn’t go to class yesterday (1 April 2020), while teachers stood by lest there are some parents who didn’t have any childcare arrangement have to leave their kids in the school to supervise.

But they got more than that: it was revealed that one of the students has been tested positive for COVID-19.

Yesterday, the principal sent a memo to all parents, saying that a Primary 2 kid in the school had been tested positive.

It obviously wasn’t an April Fool’s Joke.

The student was last in school on Monday (30 March 2020), and had contracted the virus from a family member. The principal also added, “The student continues to remain in high spirits while receiving treatment.”

Students and staff members who had been in close contact with the case have been placed on Leave of Absence for 14 days from 1 April 2020.

School Closes for a Day for Disinfection

As a precautionary measure, the school isn’t open today as well as it’ll be undergoing disinfection.

In other words, one more home-based learning days for all students, while for some who have been issued an LOA, it’d be 14 days of home-based learning days.

The principal added, “These measures are in place to ensure that our school remains a safe environment for teaching and learning.”

As of yesterday, Singapore has 1,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
