Singapore is known for its high food safety hygiene standards which means that people do not often get food poisoning.
We have clean drinking water and you do not have to worry about getting a stomachache even if you eat “street food”.
However, having on a few food safety issues do not mean no food safety issues will ever occur on our shores.
Even four or five-star hotels can mess up and cause their guests to get food poisoning.
Recently, a wedding at The St. Regis Singapore led to over 30 guests coming down with food poisoning, including the bridge.
Here is more on this surprising case.
Wedding Banquet at The St Regis Singapore Leads to 30 Guests With Food Poisoning
We guess you really have to be careful about what you eat.
About 30 people contracted food poisoning after attending a wedding banquet.
Can you imagine holding a wedding and causing your guests to fall sick?
The celebration was held at The St. Regis Singapore located along Tanglin Road, on 3 September 2023.
For those unaware, The St. Regis Singapore is part of the famed Marriott umbrella of hotels and is considered an upscale or swanky hotel in Singapore.
The bridge was reportedly one of those who suffered from food poisoning after eating food provided at the wedding banquet, per The Straits Times.
If you are thinking that this is quite a suay (unlucky) incident, we agree.
Given the magnitude of the situation, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and Ministry of Health (MOH) are now hot on the heels of The St. Regis Singapore to investigate what happened.
According to The Straits Times, the SFA said that none of the attendees who suffered from food poisoning were hospitalised.
The hotel is also allegedly investigating the issue, as shared by a spokesperson of the hotel who spoke to The Straits Times.
Since the food poisoning was reported, the hotel maintains that it has high standards of food safety and the “test results [of the food samples provided] have been found to be in accordance with food safety guidelines”.
The spokesperson for The St. Regis Singapore also stressed that the hotel “takes hygiene and cleanliness very seriously” such that the “well-being of [their] guests are always [their] primary priority”.
Let’s hope that is true as we wait to see the explanation about why so many guests fell sick.
