Uncle & Auntie Got Into Heated Argument Over a Foot on Bus Window

Sometimes, after a long day at work or shopping, we want to kick up our feet and relax.

Most of us would do it at home or in resorts. There are better places to do so than the bus.

One uncle passenger lectured an auntie for putting her feet up against the window on bus service 160. She took off her shoes and placed her feet in socks on the bus railing by the window.

However, she did not let the incident slide and decided to confront him.

A heated argument ensued, and TikTok user @joyang0422 captured and shared it with the world. The video has gone viral, with over 300k views and 1,000 comments.

Too bad eating and drinking are not allowed on buses; if not, I would have been munching on my popcorn watching the show.

Auntie and Uncle’s Fight on the Bus

Throughout the exchange, the auntie and uncle argued in the Hokkien dialect.

He pleaded for her to put her feet down as this was not her home. It was inappropriate for her to put her feet up.

The auntie retorted childishly, asking him to “go find your wife” and mind his own business, to which the uncle called her out for having “no manners”. He emphasised that “I have to speak up for what is not right”.

He chastised her, asking her, “how old are you already” to be behaving this way. She raised her voice to tell him to “shut up”.

Both parties continued to hurl expletive insults at one another, with the man calling her a “ghost” and “roasted pork”.

Running out of argument ideas, the auntie turned to attack the uncle for his socioeconomic status.

At about 0:40 of the TikTok video, she asked him, “Do you not have any money? Are you so poor that you have to bud into my business?”. Talk about bringing a gun to a knife fight.

The uncle gracefully replied that “being poor” was his business. He retorts that “even the poor don’t sit in the bus like that” while gesturing at the auntie’s unsightly behaviour—common uncle W.

The funny thing was the sign that instructs passengers not to put their feet up could be seen during the whole argument on the bus.

These signs were implemented back in August 2019 by SMRT after years of complaints from other passengers about misbehaving passengers dirtying the seats in front of them with their feet. Nobody wants to smell your feet, auntie.

Unfortunately, there are no laws that punish such misbehaving passengers yet.

Maybe the Land Transport Authority (LTA) can push out “Feet Down Freddy” as part of their lineup for their Gracious Commuting campaign.

Furthermore, this was bus service 160, a cross-border journey between Johor Bahru and Singapore. Auntie, please don’t tarnish tourists’ view of us Singaporeans.

Netizens’ Response

The internet has taken the uncle’s side.

Many TikTok users have complimented the uncle for doing the right thing, telling the auntie off for her wrongful behaviour.

Many TikTok users also criticised the auntie for her unruly behaviour.

However, one TikTok user also rightfully pointed out how quiet the other passengers were during the exchange. Why did nobody speak up for the uncle?

Next time, if you are taking the bus and see such unacceptable behaviour, don’t hesitate to voice out and be like this uncle. Do what is right.
