Whenever we’re having a bad day, looking at cute dogs and cats always makes us feel better.

There’s just something about these small, furry creatures that warms our heart.

Given that they’re helpless, especially puppies and kittens, it’s up to us to ensure that they’re safe and well taken care of.

And this doesn’t just mean feeding and sheltering them.

When these tiny canines are in danger, we need to get them to safety, as they may not be able to do it themselves.

And that’s exactly what happened at a pet store recently.

19 Puppies Saved from Pet Store Fire Along Upper Thomson Rd; Shop Closed till Further Notice

19 puppies were saved from a pet store in the early hours of Saturday morning (10 Apr) after a fire broke out there.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to a fire at 197 Upper Thomson Road at around 1.15am on Saturday.

When firefighters from the Bishan Fire Station arrived on the scene, they found that they had to enter the premises through the use of force.

Fortunately, the firefighters managed to extinguished the fire with a water jet. According to the SCDF, the fire “involved” a dehumidifier in the pet store.

Unlike many of their calls, it wasn’t humans that the firefighters had to save this time.

SCDF said that 19 puppies were rescued from the pet store, to the relief of animal lovers everywhere.

Passersby Help Out

It wasn’t just the firefighters who took care of the little canines, though.

Once they were rescued, a few passersby were spotted caring for the puppies by helping to calm them down, as they must have been pretty distressed by the incident.

The passersby kept the puppies in cardboard boxes and had to make sure that they didn’t run away in fear.

Some of the helpers reportedly asked around for water too, as the puppies have soot all over their fur.

A video of the incident, uploaded by ST, showed several onlookers and firefighters outside the pet store attending to the puppies.

The SCDF acknowledged the helpfulness of the passersby in their statement.

SCDF would like to thank a few passers-by who helped out by taking care of the puppies outside the store while the firefighting operation was ongoing.

The pet store in question, WellFond Pets, later confirmed on Instagram that their Thomson outlet will be closed until further notice.
