We’ve all known Yishun as the ‘Bermuda Triangle’ of Singapore.

The place where all things strange originated from; a place which deserves to be boarded off to save the rest of Singapore.

But is that really true? Do all people living in Yishun have three nipples and four eyes?

We sent a brave individual over (he’s a Spartan athlete, by the way) to scout out Yishun and last we heard, he might just want to buy a house there. Prefer to watch because you’ve got unlimited data plan? Here you go:

To-Do in Yishun #1: Visit the Sembawang Hot Springs Park

Previously, the hot springs at Sembawang looked like this:

Yup, not very impressive.

But here’s what it looks like now:

Instead of a single pipe protruding from the ground, there is now an entire park with amenities dedicated to the hot spring.

There’s a huge cascading pool where you can soak your feet in, an area for you to cook your eggs and enjoy hot springs egg.

And even sitting area where you can soak in the shade.

Previously, there were issues of Singaporeans behaving inconsiderately (what’s new, right?) but the last time we were there, an NParks officer was deployed on-site to keep an eye on visitors.

To-Do in Yishun #2: Drink Countless Bubble Tea in “Bubble Tea City”

This is Northpoint City

From a humble single-building heartland shopping mall, this mall has grown into a massive mixed-development lifestyle, recreation and transportation hub.

If you had entered this mall, you’ll realise that the entire basement 2, basement 1 and the first level are all filled with food options. This mall also has a Community Centre located right on its first floor.

But besides that, this mall has a hidden side to it: the hidden bubble tea city. It has eight different bubble tea stores located within the mall.

Who says you need to go to Taiwan for #everydaybubbletea?

To-Do in Yishun #3: Lepak in Yishun Pond Park

Located just 10 minutes from Yishun MRT Station, Yishun Pond Park is a tranquil area perfect for resting your spirit.

Just imagine sitting by the side of the pond and enjoying the breeze passing through the trees.

There’s even a spiral tower within the park which allows you to get a bird eye view of the park.

Tired and in need of refreshments? Khoo Teck Puat Hospital is located just beside the park and their food court’s well-designed and has plenty of food options for you!

To-Do in Yishun #4: Selfie in Yishun Dam

Looking for somewhere IG-worthy to view the sunset?

West Coast Park and East Coast Park aren’t the only places to catch the beautiful sunrise and sunset.

Yishun Dam gives you the chance to catch beautiful sunrises and sunsets that’ll definitely take your breath away.

Plus, there’s a huge space for walking along the dam and chilling out with friends.

Just note that it takes about 10 minutes to reach the place by foot after alighting from the bus.

Although I got to say, it’s all worth it in the end.

To-Do in Yishun #5: Work or Study in Tzuchi Humanistic Youth Centre

When you think of co-working spaces, you’ll probably think of businesses like WeWork in the CBD.

But located right here in Yishun is one such co-working space. It’s filled with everything that you’ll possibly need to grow your startup, including basic amenities, a great view of the Yishun Pond Park outside the window and more.

And the best part? Their prices are pretty competitive.

By the way, it’s not just for bosses. They have a free-to-use study area equipped with charging ports for your laptops and mobile phones.

Note: The study area is temporarily closed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

They have three social enterprises teaching people about the sustainability movement too.

Young aspiring artists can hold their art exhibitions within the centre and musicians can choose to hold their performances within the venue.

All in all, a pretty good place for youths to create connections and display their talents.

To-Do in Yishun #6: Become a Kid in Oasis Waterpark @ Nee Soon East

Playgrounds in between blocks is a pretty common sight in Singapore.

But what about a full-blown waterpark with toilets, changing rooms and lockers? And the best part? Entry to the place is totally free.

Oasis Waterpark @ Nee Soon is Yishun’s latest “playground” for nearby residents.

It’s 5,600 sqm big and is divided into three zones.

One, of course, is the water play area, suitable for kids aged 2 to 12.

Another zone is an area filled with giant classic board games like Snakes & Ladders and aeroplanes.

And finally, there’s a butterfly zone where kids can watch butterflies fluttering around the flowers.

All in all, a place you’d definitely want to explore at least once, even if you stay at Jurong West.
