Singapore is an orderly country and no matter where you go, there’s a ton of rules that you should obey.

Especially on the roads where lives can be lost.

And if you’ve been living in the country for a long, long time, you’ll know the traffic rules very well even as a pedestrian.

After all, that’s what those primary school visits to the road safety course is for, right?

A red man means do not cross while a green man means please cross.

With care.

Because while you might not be breaking the law, you might just end up in a world of hurt because of #idiotdrivers.

Like this red Honda.

Outram Secondary School Student Knocked Down By Impatient Driver

On 6 Jan 2020, a secondary school boy was knocked down while crossing the road along Clemeceau Avenue.

The boy wearing white trousers was identified to be from Outram Secondary School.

At the time of the accident, the vehicles were travelling along Clemeceau Avenue and making a discretionary right turn into Havelock Road.

What Happened

There were two vehicles making a discretionary right turn into Havelock Road at the same time.

The vehicle nearer to the student slowed down to let him cross.

However, a red Honda car on the next lane did not spot the student in time and collided with the boy.

The student can be seen flipping and falling to the ground face-first in the video.

Thankfully, he immediately stood up while holding his face.

TNP reported that the police were alerted to the scene at about 7.10am.

It was mentioned that the boy was conscious when he was taken to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

The police are investigating the accident.

Meanwhile, Outram Secondary School said that the boy has been discharged from the hospital and has returned to school.

A counseller will be assigned to the boy to help in his recovery and a talk will be organised to remind students about road safety

Moral Of The Story

Be careful when crossing the road, even if it’s your right of way.

Because at the end of the day, no matter whether you’re in the right or wrong, your body’s going to feel hurt.

The driver might not be paying attention to the road. He could be on his mobile phone.

Or you might just happen to be in his blind spot.

Plus, discretionary right turns has been a cause for a huge debate after a high-profile accident that happened back in 2018.
