With Sunday’s (26 Sep) case count surpassing the 1,900 mark, and with a rise of 300 cases from the previous day, we fully expected that number to cross into the 2,000s yesterday (27 Sep).

But that didn’t happen, and no new large clusters were reported as well.

Unfortunately, just as it’s been the case for the last few days, there were some COVID-19 cases who succumbed to the disease.

2 COVID-19 Fatalities; Both Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19

Two more people passed away from COVID-19 complications, taking our death toll to 80. In September alone, 25 fatalities have been recorded.

The victims are an 80-year-old woman and a 74-year-old man, both Singaporean.

They had both been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but had underlying medical conditions.

1,647 New COVID-19 Cases

1,647 new infections were reported yesterday (27 Sep), comprising 1,280 community cases and 362 dormitory residents.

Among the local cases, 335 were seniors above the age of 60.

In addition, five imported cases were detected; four tested positive on arrival, while the other developed the illness during quarantine.

Dorm & Preschool Clusters Continue to Grow

While no new large clusters were reported yesterday, several of our existing clusters grew.

This includes the Blue Stars Dormitory, which swelled to 381 infections after 18 more cases were detected.

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), the cluster involves intra-dormitory transmission amongst residents with no evidence of spread beyond dormitory.

The cluster at My Little Campus, a preschool located at 849 Yishun Ring Rd, has also gotten bigger.

With three more cases, the cluster now has 47 infections. Of the 47 cases, three are employees, 27 are students, and 17 are household members of cases.

1,288 COVID-19 Cases in Hospitals; 27 in ICU

At the moment, there are 1,288 COVID-19 cases warded in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.

194 severe cases require oxygen supplementation and 27 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Of these serious cases, 185 are seniors above the age of 60.

Over the last four weeks, 98% of the local cases were either asymptomatic or had mild symptoms.

As of Monday, 82% of our population has been fully vaccinated. 85% have received at least one dose.

Supermarkets Well-Stocked With Fruits & Vegetables Despite Temporary Closure of Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre

On Sunday, it was announced that Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre would close for three days from Monday (27 Sep) due to a cluster forming there.

The Singapore Food Agency said that the closure of Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre is expected to cause some disruption to our fruit and vegetable supply, and naturally, we all started panicking.

But local supermarkets, such as NTUC FairPrice, Cold Storage, and Giant, have assured customers that they’re well-stocked with fruits and vegetables.

The SFA also said the disruption will be for a very short period only, as fruit and vegetable stalls at wet markets are usually closed on Mondays.

NTUC FairPrice urged customers to only buy what they need.

The authorities also urged people not to panic buy, so, in other words, chill out.
