Before yesterday, our daily caseload had remained under the 3,000 mark for two consecutive days, giving us hope that it’ll dwindle even further.

But of course, this is when the case numbers decided to shoot up again.

The good news is that our weekly infection growth rate is 0.82 as of yesterday, down from the 0.84 reported on Monday. This refers to the ratio of community cases for the past week over the week before.

This was the seventh consecutive day the weekly infection growth rate has remained below 1.0.

3,397 New COVID-19 Cases

3,397 new COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday (9 Nov), an increase of 927 infections from the previous day’s tally.

The cases comprise 3,222 infections in the community, 169 in migrant worker dormitories, and six imported infections.

Among the local cases are 513 seniors above 60.

12 COVID-19 Fatalities

Sadly, 12 more COVID-19 cases succumbed to the virus, bringing our death toll to 523.

Aged between 58 and 95, all of them had various underlying medical conditions, except for one unvaccinated individual.

MOH Closely Monitoring 4 Large Clusters

The Ministry of Health (MOH) is closely monitoring four large clusters with new cases, the biggest of which is at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).

The cluster has swelled to 404 cases after seven more were linked to it. 377 patients and 27 staff members have been infected there.

One case each was added to the clusters at Acacia Home and PCF Sparkletots @ Whampoa Block 85.

Acacia Home now has 45 cases comprising 43 residents and two staff members, while the preschool has 26 cases comprising 14 students and 12 household contacts of cases.

1,700 COVID-19 Cases in Hospital; 140 in ICU

At the moment, there are 1,700 COVID-19 cases warded in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.

300 serious cases require oxygen supplementation and 140 are in the intensive care unit, comprising 68 cases who are unstable and under close monitoring, and 72 who are critically ill and intubated.

Over the past seven days, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who have been critically ill in the ICU are at 0.5 and 5.2 per 100,000 population respectively.

The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 1.8 and 44.1 respectively.

Over the same period, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who died are 0.1 and 0.9 per 100,000 population respectively.

The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 0.4 and 9.1 respectively.

Currently, 85% of our population has been fully vaccinated and 86% have received at least one dose. 18% have received their booster shots.

COVID-19 Patients “Unvaccinated by Choice” to Pay Their Own Medical Bills From 8 Dec

The health ministry announced on Monday (8 Nov) that all COVID-19 patients who are “unvaccinated by choice” will have to pay their own medical bills if they are admitted to hospitals or COVID-19 treatment facilities.

“Currently, unvaccinated persons make up a sizeable majority of those who require intensive inpatient care, and disproportionately contribute to the strain on our healthcare resources,” it said.

The government will still foot the medical bill until 31 Dec for those who are partially vaccinated to allow them time to be fully vaccinated.
