The last time we saw Andy Lau, it was on-screen during the movies The Goldfinger (2023) and I Did It My Way (2023).

In The Goldfinger, Lau plays Lau Kei-yuen, a principal investigator of the Independent Commission Against Corruption. The movie is based on the story of the Carrian Group, a Hong Kong corporation which rose rapidly before collapsing shortly afterwards due to a corruption scandal.

In the movie, a stock market crash causes the sudden collapse of a multi-billion-dollar company. While investigating the matter, Lau’s character uncovers a criminal conspiracy involving the company’s founder and becomes entangled in a long-running investigation.

In I Did It My Way, Lau plays George Lam, a barrister.

Reader: Wah, so fun. Did he learn how to make cocktails during the shoot?

Barrister, as in a lawyer, not barista.

Reader: Oh…

Other than being a barrister, Lau’s character was secretly a major drug lord who utilises the dark web to traffic mass amounts of drugs throughout the world.

Gordon Lam played Sau Ho, the close friend of Lau’s character. Unbeknownst to Lau’s character, Ho is actually an undercover police officer of the Narcotics Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force.

Lam’s character faces a dilemma, feeling torn between his friendship with Lau’s character and his duties as a police officer.

The two thrilling action-crime movies got fans longing to see more of Andy Lau, hoping to see him in real life.

It turns out, fans will be able to see him in-person after all as the Hong Kong Heavenly King will be gracing the Lion City with his appearance this year.

Andy Lau To Perform In Singapore This October

On 6 May, Hong Kong production company Focus Entertainment announced on Facebook that the Hong Kong actor and singer-songwriter will be performing in Singapore this year.

His show, titled “Today… Is The Day”, will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in October.

Concert promoter Unusual Entertainment also shared the post on its Facebook page.

Unusual Entertainment teased that more details such as the exact date(s) of the show as well as where and when to buy tickets will be revealed soon.

Andy Lau’s tour was announced in late April, and 11 stops have been confirmed so far.

The tour is slated to start in July 2024 in Shanghai, before moving to Guangzhou, Beijing, Nanjing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Chongqing and Shenzhen. There are also shows slated for Macau in October and Hong Kong at year-end.

Support From Fans

Singapore’s fans of the Heavenly King have flocked to the comments, showing support for the artist.

One comment says: “It’s finally here!”

“I’ve waited so long for this,” another reads. “I want Cat A or Cat 1 tickets!”

Some fans are also saying Lau should perform here for more than the usual three or four days due to high demand.

Reader: Sounds familiar… didn’t this happen with Coldplay and Taylor Swift earlier this year?

I think we should just give PR status to all stars to get them to stay here longer and come more often.

Fans planning on attending his shows are also hoping Lau will perform songs from his 2020 album “演唱”,as he has not performed songs from the album live in Singapore yet.

Last Singapore Performance Was in 2019

The 62-year-old last performed here in 2019 for his “My Love” world tour, which was also held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Tickets for his four Singapore shows from 25 to 28 September 2019 were priced between $168 and $368.

Lau has long been known as one of the hardest working men in showbiz and showed it during his 2019 concerts, which ran for almost three hours.

Despite being 58 years old at the time, Andy Lau ran and danced across the stage during his four nights here, as if he was still in his 20s.

Many fans worried about his health, saying it seemed like it would be really hard on his body to keep singing and dancing four nights in a row at his age.

However, during his concert, he said: “I’m still healthy and I promise all of you that I will continue to be good and that I will always be the very good-looking Andy Lau.”

True enough, Andy Lau is still healthy enough to go on tour once again and perform his heart out for all his fans this year.

Last August, rumours were circulating online about Andy Lau having a concert in Singapore in 2024.

Andy Lau’s management company, Topman Global Limited, then refuted the rumours, which were based on claims by an unnamed company.

In a statement on their website, Topman refuted the claim that a company in Singapore had “obtained the right to present” Lau’s concert.

The company had even “further claimed that it could sell or assign half of its investment in the concert”.

“We hereby confirm that we have not so far authorised anyone to produce or organise Mr Lau’s concert in Singapore. Please beware of scams,” said Topman.

But, that was last year. Now that news of Andy Lau’s concerts have been officially released by Focus Entertainment, fans don’t have to worry about the legitimacy of the show.

Andy Lau is really coming to Singapore this October.
