On Tuesday (29 August), Loo Lung Tat was sentenced to three months and six weeks in jail after pleading guilty to one charge of possessing intimate images without consent and one charge of obstructing justice.

A third charge was taken into consideration for sentencing.

So, what happened to warrant sending the 25-year-old to jiak kali png?

As it turns out, the 25-year-old who works at a mobile phone repair shop in Bugis Junction, Hitec Mobile, had accessed Telegram on a customer’s phone without consent.

Not only that, Loo found several explicit images on the 30-year-old customer’s Telegram app and sent them to himself.

When the customer exposed Loo, Loo deleted the chat and uninstalled Telegram on his mobile phone, earning him the cherry on top—a charge of obstructing justice.

Phone Repairman Finds Explicit Images of Customer’s Fiancee; Sends 40 Such Images to Himself

Here’s where it all began: A 30-year-old customer had damaged his phone screen after dropping it. Logically, he decided to send his phone for repairs; his fiancee brought the phone down to Hitec Mobile on his behalf around noon on 10 January 2021.

His fiancee entrusted Loo with the phone’s password.

So, Loo got down to business and repaired the phone screen the same afternoon. He was finished by 4:45 pm.

To ensure the screen was functioning, Loo decided to input the password to test the phone screen.

But the 25-year-old did not just stop there—for some reason, he opened the Telegram app on the customer’s phone.

You know what they say: curiosity killed the cat. And in this case, curiosity killed the repairman.

While the repairman was scrolling through the customer’s Telegram chat with his fiancee, he found several nude and explicit images of the customer’s fiancee.

Here’s another point at which Loo could have stopped himself, but he didn’t. He decided to save his phone number on the customer’s phone to forward these images to himself.

He forwarded 40 such images to himself, wherein at least three were nude images of the customer’s fiancee.

His excuse? He was “stressed at work” after a recent breakup with his girlfriend in November 2020.

Well, all we can say is we’re glad his girlfriend isn’t with him anymore.

The funniest thing about this case is how Loo was caught: he failed to delete the Telegram chat from the customer’s phone after sending himself the images.

Naturally, after the customer received his phone back at 6 pm on the same day, he noticed the new Telegram “conversation” with a stranger named “Jacky”.

Nothing could have prepared the 30-year-old customer for what he would see upon clicking into the Telegram chat: 40 explicit images of his fiancee.

No wonder we need digital literacy initiatives. 

The customer immediately asked “Jacky” who he was in an attempt to “Detective Conan” his way out of the situation, but to no avail. Loo did not respond to the customer’s text.

The customer also tried calling “Jacky”, but Loo declined the call.

Loo did this instead: Delete the Telegram chat and uninstall the app to cover his tracks. Regardless, he was a step too late.

The customer contacted the police, and Loo was arrested on the same day.

Tadah. Topping up one more charge of obstructing justice.

For knowingly possessing intimate images by sending the images to himself without consent, Loo was looking at up to two years’ jail, a fine, or both.

For obstructing justice, Loo could have jiak-ed kali png for up to seven years, fined, or both.

Perhaps Loo should be counting his lucky stars that he’s only being jailed for a few months.
