In recent weeks, it seems like the skies are determined to turn this island into a waterpark.

Anyone who tried to pass through Bukit Timah on 24 August would have had the hardest time trying to wade through the flooded streets, where it was impossible to stay dry.

The PUB even announced that the level of rainfall that morning itself was already more than the average rainfall typically recorded for the month of August here.

Murky rainwater ran everywhere on the streets, filling it up to levels reminiscent of that of canals, leaving no part of the roads actually visible.

Not only did it affect roads where people were travelling via buses or cars, but bikers also found themselves in murky water while trying to navigate through nature trails.

Bukit Timah Hill Trail Turned Into A Swimming Pool

One biker shared their wild, wild, wet experience that one fateful morning on the SG PCN Cyclist Facebook page.

Mr Tat Nhan was cycling along the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve mountain bike trail when the flash floods hit, with water levels rising higher and higher, up to his waist.

Well, when people said Bukit Timah was a rainforest, they probably didn’t mean this.

He even had to hold his bicycle above his head as it would be completely submerged in water if he didn’t, looking like a scene straight out of Jumanji.

Imagine visiting the trail for some simple cycling when the skies suddenly decide to add an extra bonus triathlon course to torture you even more.

Thankfully, his bicycle was still able to stay afloat above the water.

Couldn’t Pass Through It

At certain parts of the trail, which was approximately 6.7km long, the pool of water even reached his neck, with only his head above the surface.

“It was sooooo deep it was impossible to touch the ground,” he wrote.

Which doesn’t bode well if it had been a shorter person attempting to pass through.

What was even scarier was that they were unable to look beneath the murky waters – and were thus unaware if any dangerous creatures lurked around.

Eventually, Mr Tat Nhan and his group deemed it impossible to continue wading through as the water level only kept getting higher and made their way back to parts where it was dry.

Here’s him looking victorious for reaching some point of the trail, though:

Despite the dangerous situation, he commented that this was a “once in a lifetime situation” that they decided to just go through with.

It’s scary to see how natural rainfall can cause such flooding to obstruct our daily lives.

Always remember to remain careful out there.
