DPM Lawrence Wong to Deliver Budget 2024 Speech: Singaporeans Welcome to Share their Views

As February 2024 approaches, Singaporeans are not only gearing up for the festive celebrations of the upcoming Chinese New Year but eagerly anticipating the 2024 Budget speech as well.

Since the speech is taking place during the celebratory month, I’m sure the question on many people’s minds is whether there would be more angbaos for us this year. (Keep your fingers crossed)

This much-awaited statement will be presented by Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, marking the third time he has taken on this significant role in delivering the Budget speech.

What is the Budget Statement?

Singapore’s Budget statement outlines the strategic financial plan that Singapore will undertake for the upcoming fiscal year. It serves as a record of approved expenditures, ensuring transparency and accountability in the utilization of government funds.

Moreover, it sheds light on the government’s estimated revenue and expenditure for the new financial year, which runs from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025.

Beyond the financial figures, the budget statement also takes into account the potential socioeconomic challenges the nation might face and allocates resources to address them.

Last year, new schemes were implemented and of course, the one that garnered the most attention was the additional GST vouchers and assurance package.

Where to Catch the 2024 Budget Speech?

The speech will be delivered on 16 February in Parliament.

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) invites Singaporeans to share their views and provide suggestions for the upcoming Budget 2024 from now till 26 January 2024.

To do so, you can visit Reach’s Budget 2024 official site. If you prefer complaining in person, you’ll be pleased to know that a physical Listening Point will be held at Galaxis at One North, on 23 January 2024, from 12pm to 3pm.

Furthermore, MOF has partnered with People’s Association to launch various channels and ‘Ask Kopi Kakis’ sessions in local communities to gather public opinions.

This engagement will continue until 26 January 26, providing multiple avenues for you to share your insights, whether through online forms, virtual sessions, or physical gatherings, as detailed on their website.
