PMD riders are not very happy these days.
For years, they merrily rode around the country, injuring anyone in their path with glee. They didn’t have to walk, and we didn’t have enough time to yell at them about the annoyingly loud music that roared from their scooters because they would be gone in a few seconds.
It was a good time to ride PMDs.
But then the footpath ban came and hit riders like a ton of bricks. They tried riding on grass, drains, and even bus shelters to circumvent the ban.
But the authorities weren’t having it. Despite this, PMD riders continued to grace our streets with their scooters during the advisory period.
But it’s 2020 now, and riders who are caught using their devices on footpaths will be liable for a fine of up to S$2,000 and/or jail for up to three months.
So, PMD riders are pissed. Some are so pissed that they want to physically take it out on others.
Man Told PMD Users in Telegram Groups to Gather & Injure Anyone They See
The police arrested a 34-year-old man on Tuesday (31 Dec), for inciting violence through Telegram chat groups, the authorities said.
The police said a report was filed on Monday about a Telegram user who was posting comments in chat groups calling for personal mobility device (PMD) users to gather at Punggol Park at 9pm.
Well, that seems normal. Maybe they just wanted to hang out and-
The user also asked PMD users to “cause injury to anyone they see”.
Is it sad that I’m not surprised?
After establishing his identity, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division arrested the man at around 10am on Tuesday. They also seized two mobile phones.
Investigations are ongoing.
Those guilty of making an electronic record containing an incitement to violence can be jailed for up to five years and/or fined.
Chill out, PMD users
Dear PMD users, we understand that the ban has had a huge impact on you, especially food delivery riders. But you also have to acknowledge the fact that PMDs have genuinely been a danger to pedestrians and caused many injuries and even a few deaths.
What I’m trying to say, in the nicest way possible, is to suck it up and move on. It’s not the end of the world, guys.
