I know what you’re thinking the moment you read the headline: “Simi sai? We here at Singapore not enough liao and we’re giving masks away?!”

First of all, calm down and don’t blame every single Government’s decision. If you so goody you can be a politician yourself.

Secondly, there’s no mention on how many percent of it are masks. It could be 1,999kg of tissue paper and 1kg on other medical supplies.

And thirdly, even if they are masks…what makes everyone think that we don’t have enough? I’m still seeing medical professionals in Singapore wearing masks. The high demand for masks in Singapore isn’t triggered by a low supply; it’s triggered by high kiasu-ness.

If Singapore is indeed short of masks, you’d see medical professionals using one cup of a bra to protect their face le.

So you don’t need to “simi sai”.

Mindef Sending 2,000kg of Medical Supplies to China’s Military Hospitals

In a Facebook post by Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen, he revealed that 2,000kg of medical supplies, comprising safety goggles, N95 masks and medical handwash, have been sent to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to distribute to their military hospitals.

During the Official Singapore Airshow I said that during difficult times, real friends stick together, when the Ba Yi aerobatics team took stringent measures to ensure that they could keep performing here. To reciprocate their friendship, Ministry of Defence, Singapore (MINDEF) delivered over 2,000kg of medical supplies such as safety goggles, N95 masks and medical handwash to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to distribute to their military hospitals.

Singapore’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China Mr Lui Tuck Yew and Defence Attache COL Steven Tan handed over MINDEF/SAF’s humanitarian assistance contribution to Deputy Head of Department of the PLA General Hospital Medical Service Department SCOL Zhang Fu in Beijing.

The next question you’d ask is: why?

Why do China need it, and why is it to military hospitals instead of regular hospitals?

For a start, it’s been reported that the medical staff in Wuhan have allegedly been reusing their personal protective equipment (PPE) due to the short of supplies.

And no, they didn’t create masks out of bra.

This is worrying, especially after the death of a director of a Wuhan hospital.

But why are the supplies sent to military hospitals?

Because just like Descendants of the Sun, military medical staff have been crash landing on Wuhan to help out as the city’s on lockdown, and the number of patients definitely exceeds the number of healthcare professionals. Also, military medical staff have been helping out in this outbreak.
