I know what you’re thinking.

Reader Bao: Oh my god, what is it this time?

Don’t worry, today’s speech-in-the-making is an annual event that he’s been doing for years, even before we even knew that Covid isn’t an adult video production house.

Reader Bao: Then why don’t I know about it?

Because this will be the first time his May Day Rally speech will be shown live.

NTUC Not Holding May Day Rally This Year

In case you didn’t know, the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) organises a May Day Rally one day before Labour Day every year.

And PM Lee will appear at the rally to give his May Day message which talks about the employment and jobs landscape in Singapore.

For those who are curious, here’s what his May Day message was like back in 2019.

Two years back, it was held at Our Tampines Hub and my boss was able to sneak in and fanboy over PM Lee.

He’s still caressing the creepshot of PM Lee in his sleep every night.

First Time His May Day Speech Will Be Televised

Not everyone was able to enjoy PM Lee’s pink shirt in all its glory because it was never televised before.

However, this year, in view of the Covid-19 outbreak, NTUC isn’t holding the rally.

Instead, he will be giving his speech remotely and it will be shown, live at 7.30pm tonight, on the following platforms:

  • CNA and Channel 5 (English message with English subtitles)
  • Channel 8 (Mandarin message with Chinese subtitles)
  • Suria (Malay message with Malay subtitles)
  • Vasantham (English message with Tamil subtitles)
  • PM Lee’s Facebook page
  • Prime Minister’s Office YouTube channel
  • NTUC’s Facebook page
  • NTUC’s YouTube channel

Hopefully, he’ll be wearing a red NTUC polo Tee because as we all know, when he wears blue, it means shit has hit the fan.

NTUC Cancelling Events Or Shifting Things Online

Unlike a certain politician, NTUC’s leading by example this time to make huge adjustments to their annual May Day events to commemorate great companies, workers and employees in Singapore.

Forgoing the rally, they’ll be holding a 500-strong closed-door dialogue session led by NTUC president Mary Liew, NTUC secretary-general Ng Chee Meng, Manpower Minister Josephine Teo and Singapore National Employers Federation president Robert Yap.

Hopefully, the participants have learnt their lesson and understand that when they say “closed-door”, they mean closed-doors.

They’ve also cancelled the awards ceremony that’s meant to honour individuals, companies and tripartite partners.

An exciting carnival has also been cancelled and NTUC is now looking at ways to replace these festivities with online events.
