You’re probably already aware of the gruesome murder of Abby Choi.

Her headless body was previously found with parts of her body parts cooked.

There’s been an update to this horrifying incident.

Here’s what you need to know.

Missing Head Found in Soup

Police found the missing head of Ms Choi in one of two big pots.

The pots contained soup and minced meat that is believed to be human remains.

The soup was filled with carrots and radishes.

Police also found ribs believed to be Ms Choi’s in the soup.

DNA Testing Needed

Police retrieved the two large pots of soup on Friday from the house where Ms Choi was said to have been butchered.

The house is located in Tai Po, a rural district in Hong Kong.

While the body parts found are believed to belong to Ms Choi, DNA tests are still needed to confirm it.

Forensic experts began examining the contents of the soup on Sunday, leading to the discovery of the head and ribs.

Apparently, someone had tried to bash the head.

Police are still finding the rest of the missing body parts, like her hands and torso.

Two Charged with Murder

After a search involving hefty rewards of more than HK$2 million, Ms Choi’s former husband, Alex Kwong, was arrested on Saturday.

However, he has not been charged yet.

Reportedly, he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after complaining of feeling unwell.

He was caught with HK$4.5 million (S$774,000) worth of cash and luxury watches trying to flee.

Police said that he had a criminal history had had already been on the run for six years for an unrelated gold investment scam.

On the other hand, his father and elder brother were charged with murder.

Police say Kwong’s father, a former cop, was the mastermind behind Ms Choi’s death.

Kwong’s mother was also arrested.

She was charged with obstructing the investigations.

They are set to appear in local court on 27 February.

Another Suspect Arrested

If you thought this case couldn’t have gotten any worse, another suspect has been arrested.

The suspect, a 47-year-old woman surnamed Ng, was the lover of Ms Choi’s former father-in-law.

She was accused of renting the ground floor flat of the village house with him.

She was also suspected of helping Kwong evade police. 

A masseuse who had been in a relationship with Kwong’s father for six months, she was suspected of renting a luxury flat in the Arch Sky Tower development in West Kowloon to hide Kwong.

Initial Report

Ms Choi had been reported missing last Tuesday after failing to pick her daughter up from school.

She was found dead and dismembered in a village house in Tai Po district.

She was only 28 years old.

The police found weapons such as an electric saw and a meat grinder at the crime scene.

While death is inevitable for everyone, the state of Ms Choi’s body was shocking.

Suspected Motivation for the Murder

Before her gruesome death, Ms Choi appeared to maintain a good relationship with her former husband and his family.

Kwong’s elder brother had even shared multiple photos of Ms Choi and him together on social media, where he tagged her as his “sis”.

Ms Choi continued to offer financial support to her ex-husband and his family even after the divorce.

She married Kwong at the young age of 18. It’s not known when the divorce occurred.

However, relations soured over a multi-million-dollar dispute.

Perhaps money is the root of all evil.

She had arranged for her former in-laws and two children to live in a luxury apartment and had even helped her former brother-in-law buy a home.

Reportedly, her former brother-in-law was unhappy that Ms Choi attempted to sell an apartment registered in his name.

The apartment was worth around HK$72.8 million.

Lawyers had advised Ms Choi that she could take the property sale proceeds as long as there was proof that she had been paying for it.

Relationship Between Ms Choi and her Former Brother-in-law

The elder Kwong was Ms Choi’s driver and former business partner.

Both were directors of companies that owned the pancake stall Bear Bear Snack.

The stall was reportedly involved in contractual disputes totalling a whopping sum of more than HK$130,000.

HK media reported that he may have driven Ms Choi to the village house where the murder took place under the guise of taking her to fetch her children.

Ms Choi was a socialite and influencer with a reported net worth of around HK$100 million (S$17.2 million).

She hailed from a wealthy family who did business in China.

Though it is unclear when Ms Choi and Kwong divorced, she and Mr Tam Chuk Kwan had a wedding ceremony in 2016.

However, the couple never officially registered their marriage.

Speaking to local media through a family friend, Mr Tam called Ms Choi a “kind-hearted and good person who always wanted to help others.”

He added, “She supported me and loved me very much. She also brought up four cute and obedient kids. It has been a blessing to be Abby’s family or friend.”

Ms Choi’s mother, who has not been named but goes by “Fifth Sister” on her Douyin account, has been liking netizens’ condolences.

She described Ms Choi, the eldest of her three daughters, as a generous and tactful person.

Ms Choi leaves behind four children, two from her previous marriage and two with Mr Tam.
