The past few weeks have been crazy. Many have even taken to the comments section of various platforms to say that the whole month of July seems to be cursed due to so many incidents happening.

From the discovery of the KTV and Jurong Fishery Port clusters, to the unfortunate murders at Ang Mo Kio, Punggol, and River Valley High School, and the CTE accident that claimed the life of a 31-year-old motorcyclist, it seemed like we were only seeing bad news being reported.

Thankfully, not every incident has a bad ending. Here’s some slightly uplifting news of two rescues that were made last week successfully thanks to the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).

RSAF Rescued 2 Crew Members from Commercial Vessels Off S’pore Coast

Two photographs were posted on the RSAF’s Facebook page, and one of them showed someone being carried away on a stretcher after landing in a Super Puma helicopter.

It was later revealed that on Monday, 19 July, a crew member of a commercial vessel about 100km off the coast of Singapore started experiencing memory loss. It seemed like it was the first time he was experiencing such an incident, as he had no recent history of trauma.

The RSAF was immediately activated and they managed to evacuate the crew member safely.

On Tuesday, 20 July, a crew member of another commercial vessel about 3km off the coast of Singapore said that he had some chest pains, so the RSAF search-and-rescue team, Rescue 10, quickly got him to safety.

Both individuals were sent to the Singapore General Hospital, and reports showed that they are conscious and in stable condition.

The Facebook post by the RSAF also said, “We wish the two individuals a speedy recovery.”

Rescue Missions Not Rare

According to a statement by the Ministry of Defence, the RSAF is usually activated to participate in approximately two search-and-rescue missions each month.

The statement mentioned, “A team of RSAF aircrew, ground crew and medical personnel are on standby 24/7 in order to respond swiftly for life-saving missions whenever called upon.”

In fact, they are on standby even on public holidays while most of us are resting at home and spending time with our families.

In a blog post by the RSAF, CPT (Dr) Joel Tan was quoted saying, “When the time comes and someone at the brink of death receives a second shot at life, it makes all the sacrifices worthwhile.”

In May 2019, the team was activated three times in three weeks on rescue missions to save lives.

It is definitely inspiring to know that our airmen are always ready and prepared to reach for their gears and be airborne within minutes to rescue anyone in need of help.
