Tan Kin Lian, who recently cancelled all his walkabouts and an online rally planned for tonight (30 August 2023), made a surprise comeback today. And despite these cancellations, he managed to stay in the headlines for an entirely different reason.

No, it’s not about his surprise comeback.

A man caused quite a stir during Ng Kok Song’s walkabout in Clementi, and Mr Tan was prompt to distance himself from him.

Cyclist Crashes the Ng Kok Song Party

Ng Kok Song was in the midst of his walkabout at Clementi Central when, out of the blue, a man on a bicycle disrupted the event. Not just once, but twice, he rode his bicycle into the crowd, all while yelling profanities and making threatening gestures.

This incident occurred around 7pm near Clementi Mall.

The man, donning a red T-shirt, first made his appearance near the fountains adjacent to Clementi Mall.

At that moment, Mr Ng was busy posing for photos with his fiancée, Sybil Lau, and the public, after a 30-minute conversation with the residents post a reporter interview.

Then, chaos ensued as the man rode his bicycle into the crowd.

Charles Ng, the younger brother of Mr. Ng, stepped between the presidential candidate and the man, signaling him to leave and informing him that he was causing a disruption.

However, the man was relentless, shouting at Mr Ng to “go home,” making threatening gestures, and hurling vulgarities.

The younger Mr Ng, along with other team members, positioned themselves between the man and the presidential candidate, signaling to the public that the photo-taking session was cancelled.

fter a brief standoff, the man left the way he came, allowing Mr Ng to resume taking photos with the people still waiting in line.

Shockingly, the man returned and cycled into the crowd for a second time.

This prompted Mr Ng’s team to escort him towards Clementi Mall to exit the area. The crowd, initially gathered to see Mr Ng, followed the man instead. Who doesn’t love drama, right?

The man eventually stopped closer to Clementi Mall and shouted Tan Kin Lian’s name several times before cycling away.

The police arrived at the scene approximately 15 minutes later.

Interestingly, it wasn’t Mr Ng’s team who called them.

Footage of the incident went viral on TikTok, compelling Tan Kin Lian to respond.

Tan Kin Lian’s Clarification

As anticipated, Tan Kin Lian addressed the incident on Facebook, his most active social media platform.

He informed that he was aware of the incident but could not confirm if the individual involved was a genuine supporter. He then seized this opportunity to urge all his supporters to behave respectfully towards all candidates and the public.

In response to media inquiries, he claimed he had “no idea” who the man was and suggested that Mr. Ng file a police report. Mr. Tan’s team further clarified that if the man was indeed one of the candidate’s supporters, he “acted on his own accord.”

Despite being inactive for the past two days, Mr Tan made a “comeback” today, the last day of campaigning. His media team labeled it as “the final lap.”

Tonight, the second Presidential Candidate Broadcasts will be aired, signifying the end of campaigning as tomorrow will be Cooling-Off Day.
