Last year, when COVID-19 just got its name, The Orange Ballroom got into the news for being a new COVID-19 cluster.

Back then, people were still in tears over the impending Circuit Breaker, so we might have forgotten about it.

And that wasn’t the last time The Orange Ballroom had a brush with COVID-19.

In March this year, the wedding venue was ordered to close for 20 days for “egregious breaches” of the COVID-19 rules.

SLA officers had then spotted that a couple has abused the system by having three receptions on the same day.

You’d have thought that it would be the end, right?

No.

The Orange Ballroom Will be Charged in Court for Breaking COVID-19 Rules for Wedding Receptions

Today, SLA said that they’re hauling the wedding venue to court for the wedding conducted on 30 Jan.

They will appear in court tomorrow (10 November).

SLA added that on that day, they had split the event into three separate wedding receptions in a day, leading to a total attendance of 235 people.

According to SLA, they had purportedly hosted more than 50 people at each of the three receptions, failing to ensure that the maximum number at each reception did not exceed 50.

Also, when an additional 18 people turned up in one of the three receptions, they allegedly failed to stop them from entering.

Wedding Organiser to be Charged As Well

Other than The Orange Ballroom, a wedding organiser will be charged, too.

Osman Arrifin has allegedly failed to take all reasonable steps to ensure that the attendees did not exceed the maximum permissible group size then, and did not take all reasonable steps to ensure that the guests attended only the reception they were invited to at a specific time.

If found guilty, The Orange Ballroom could face a fine of up to $10,000 for its first offence.

For Osman, he could face the usual penalty you’ve heard countless times: a fine of a maximum of $10,000, a jailtime for up to six months or both.

Moral of the story?

Don’t test the system.
