With COVID-19 still claiming lives all over the world, it’s easy to forget that there are a host of other serious ailments out there.

We can take all the precautions to avoid contracting the coronavirus, but end up a victim of another malady.

And sadly, this happens all the time.

Veteran S’porean DJ & Musician Chris Ho Passed Away at The Age of 60 Due to Stomach Cancer

Chris Ho, a veteran Singaporean DJ and musician, has passed away at the age of 60.

According to a Facebook post on Ho’s account, the 60-year-old died peacefully at around 4:37am this morning (27 Sep).

Unbeknownst to some, Ho had been battling stomach cancer for two months.

“He was brave, determined and cheerful to the end. He’ll be dearly missed,” the post read.

Those who wish to say their final goodbyes to Ho are invited to his funeral at the Ruby Room @Singapore Casket at 131 Lavender Street from 6pm – 11pm this evening.

His wake will also be open to the public from 11am to 11pm from tomorrow (28 Sep) to Thursday (30 Sep).

Do note that due to safe distancing restrictions, the hall can only accommodate 30 visitors at a given time.

A Jack of All Trades

Besides being a DJ on GOLD 905, Ho was also an author, music critic, filmmaker, and legend in the local music scene.

In the 1980s, he started the new wave band Zircon Lounge, bringing the genre to life in the local alternative music scene.

He has also released several solo albums since then, including one titled No Ordinary Country.

In Skew Me U Rebel, Meh?, one of the many books Ho authored during his career, the 60-year-old detailed what he’d like his obituary to be:

“X’ Ho. Age: Forever 27 (the real age is none of anyone’s business)”.

Gold 905 & Mediacorp Respond

Gold 905 responded to news of Ho’s passing in an Instagram post, saying: “No words can express our heartfelt sorrow and he will be dearly missed by the GOLD905, Mediacorp and radio family and everyone that knew him. Chris, you will forever be in our hearts.”

Mediacorp, too, issued a statement lamenting Ho’s death.

“Chris had been an integral part of the Mediacorp family since joining Perfect 10, 987 in 1993. He was with Radio Singapore International (RSI) from 1994 to 2007. He joined the GOLD 905 family in August 2017,” it said.

“Chris was much loved by all who knew and worked with him. He was an icon in the local music scene and a household name as a multi-talented artiste. He was well known and respected for his strong support of local music talent and creation.

“With his passion for music, through his personal albums, and many contributions to songwriting and song appreciation, he left an indelible mark on the local music scene.”
