On the afternoon of 26 April, a woman’s body was found in the Singapore River.

Lianhe Zaobao reported that there were multiple police vehicles and a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) vehicle lining River Valley Road next to the river.

It was suspected that someone had fallen into the river.

Police later confirmed that they had received a report of an unnatural death at 11.15am that day and went to recover the body as well as begin investigations.

The woman has been identified as a 33-year-old Vietnamese national who was a single mother.

While investigations are still ongoing, police have ruled out the possibility of homicide based on preliminary investigations.

Came To Singapore About A Week Ago To Work

According to Shin Min Daily News, the woman, whose name is is Dang Hoang Ly Na, was from a small village in Vietnam.

The 33-year-old was the only daughter of her elderly parents in their 70s and was a single mother of her 11-year-old daughter.

She suffered from lung problems but had come to Singapore about a week ago to work in the night entertainment industry in order to earn money to support her family.

Her Body Will Be Sent Back To Vietnam

Undertaker Roland Tay, who is handling the funeral arrangements on behalf of the family, told Shin Min he will help send Dang Hoang’s body back home so her daughter can see her one last time.

Mr Tay felt that he had a duty to do so as the girl was very young, and it doesn’t matter whether the family can afford to pay him or not.

A family member arrived in Singapore on 29 April to collect Dang Hoang’s body and settle other formalities.

Mr Tay estimated that her body will be sent back home over the next few days after it’s prepared for the funeral.

Two Bodies Were Separately Found Floating In Waters In March

In March 2024, two bodies were also found floating in waters on separate occasions.

On 11 March, the body of a 51-year-old man was found in the waters off Senoko Way, near Woodlands.

His car was found on a bridge in Permas Jaya in Johor that morning. Citing the Johor police, Malaysian news outlet Sin Chew Daily reported that the victim is believed to be a Malaysian man who worked as a private-hire driver.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

About three weeks later, in the morning of 30 March, the body of a woman was discovered floating in waters off Kallang Riverside Park.

The 58-year-old was declared dead at the scene.

In April 2024, the body of a 39-year-old Singaporean woman was found in Spain with 30 stab wounds.

The suspect, Singaporean Mitchell Ong, 43, was arrested and appeared in court on 19 April.

The Spanish police has been investigating the case, exploring a possible “economic motive” for her death.

It was previously reported that the victim, Ms Audrey Fang Di Rou, had bought two investment-linked policies from AIA from Ong in Aug 2015.

Just yesterday, it was reported that investigators found a note on her iPad indicating that Ms Fang had decided to nominate an unknown person for her Central Provident Fund (CPF).

According to Spanish news outlet La Verdad, the note wrote: “I want to declare that my decision to name you in my CPF is because you have been a friend for a long time and my trusted confidant”.

The validity of the note is being questioned due to the use of the word “Heya”, as the word was not characteristic of Ms Fang, who mostly conversed in Mandarin.

Ms Fang’s family also noted that they were unaware of the change in CPF nomination.

The case is still being investigated.
