But very often, we’d see heroes as well.

Just like those Scoot employees who had volunteered to bring back 92 Singaporeans from Wuhan.

And farther from home, we’ve this medical staff from Hunan, China.

28YO Medical Staff Fighting Wuhan Virus Allegedly Died From Overwork After Working 10 Days Straight

According to The Paper, 28-year-old Song Ying Jie (his Chinese name is 宋英杰; not sure if we get the English name right) is the deputy head of a pharmaceutical group at a health centre in Hengyang, a city in Hunan Province (yes, the place with H5H1).

In Hunan, the province has (as of yesterday) 593 confirmed cases with 22 recovered patients and no deaths.

Born in 1992, Song has been working at an expressway to do health checks since April 2016.

Ever since the first day of Chinese New Year, the unsung hero knew he had to do his part; he insisted on working every day since then.

And because a hero needs a face, here’s how he looks like without his surgical mask.

His work involved checking the temperature of the people at the toll station, distributing medical supplies at the health centre and working to prevent any infections.

I’m tired just by reading what he has to do.

Song completed his shift at 12am on 3 February 2020 after ten days of work, and went back to his dormitory.

Unfortunately, his colleague found him dead in the dormitory, and it was believed that he had died from sudden cardiac arrest due to overwork.

While Hunan has not registered any death from the Wuhan virus, there’s now a casualty from someone who tried to maintain that zero-death record.

So whoever you are reading this, don’t make him die in vain. Do your job by being socially responsible, and we can all end this fight earlier.
