Yesterday, there was a press conference held by the Multi-Ministry Task Force to fight COVID-19, and ever since the Circuit Breaker kicked in, their press conferences have brought nothing but even more new measures.

From having to wear masks to the closure of bubble teas.

Thankfully, no new measures were announced yesterday, though we now get to know why we’re seeing so many new cases today, and maybe in the next few days. Kind of.

Today, there are 528 COVID-19 cases reported.

This brings the total number of cases in Singapore to 14,951

Of these, only 8 are Singaporeans or Singapore PRs. Yesterday, this figure is at 14.

Based on yesterday’s numbers, on average, the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 29 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 20 per day in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of 19 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 13 per day in the past week.

MOH also updated the number of deaths due to COVID-19 infections; 2 more patients passed away, bringing the total fatality in Singapore to 14. They are an 82-year-old Singaporean and an 81-year-old Singaporean.

Bring Community Transmission Down And Some Restrictions Might Be Lifted

During yesterday’s press conference, it was revealed that the authorities have tested over 21,000 migrant workers living in dormitories, which means about 6.6% of them have been tested.

They were testing about 2,900 workers per day, and now could test up to 8,000 workers per day. This meant we might be seeing even more confirmed cases in the next few days.

In addition, Minister Lawrence Wong also said that they’re looking at reducing the community transmissions, and if the numbers do go down, they might be able to lift some restrictions. This means whether we can have bubble tea soon or not really depends on the number of community cases.

And here’s a breakdown of the cases in the last 6 days (not inclusive of today yet as today’s number is just a preliminarily report):

22 April = 17 (15 Singaporeans/Permanent Residents, 2 Work Passes)

23 April = 25 (22 Singaporeans/Permanent Residents, 3 Work Passes)

24 April = 25 (13 Singaporeans/Permanent Residents, 12 Work Passes)

25 April = 9 (7 Singaporeans/Permanent Residents, 2 Work/ Long-Term Visit Passes)

26 April = 18 (13 Singaporeans/Permanent Residents, 5 Work Passes)

27 April = 18 (14 Singaporeans/Permanent Residents, 4 Work Passes)
