Alcohol may be a pleasant experience for those consuming it…

But the reality may differ for those around them.

After all, there’s a reason why drunken stupors often end in…

Tragedy.

Or in the following case, utter blasphemy.

Drunk Man Called His Elderly Mother a ‘Loose Woman’ & Punched His 12YO Son

According to The Straits Timesa 48-year-old man has been sentenced to four weeks in prison for beating his young son and insulting his elderly mother.

He was reportedly drunk on both occasions.

According to the news report, the first incident occurred on 3 December 2019 in the evening, at his family’s flat.

He was technically not permitted to enter the premises, as his mother had actually taken out a Personal Protection Order (PPO) against him.

As it turned out, the man had consumed four cans of beer before ‘visiting’, and he swiftly got into an argument with his 74-year-old mother.

The elderly woman then told him to leave.

It was at this point that he insulted her, calling her a loose woman.

He also did not cease his tirade, even after police arrived and apprehended him.

As for the second incident, it transpired on the afternoon of 25 February 2021.

Again, the man had gotten into an argument with his mother, and this time his 51-year-old sister, at the family flat.

Apparently, he had consumed five cans of beer beforehand.

According to the news report, the man asked his son whether he wanted to move out of the flat with him, but the latter declined.

The young son stated that he wished to stay with his grandmother.

Infuriated, the man took his anger out on his sister, pulling her hair at least twice.

He also pushed his son and whacked him in the face, before pushing his own mother.

He was subsequently apprehended at 6:20 p.m.

Sentencing

In court, the man pleaded guilty to one charge each of voluntarily causing hurt, harassment and breaching a Personal Protection Order (PPO).

He was eventually sentenced to four weeks in prison, though the sentence was ultimately backdated to 31 May, the period when he entered remand.

For each charge of harassment, he could have faced an imprisonment term of up to six months, a fine of up to S$5,000, or both.

For the initial breach of a PPO, he could have faced an imprisonment term of up to six months, a fine of up to S$2,000 or both.

For repeat violators of a PPO, they could face an imprisonment term of up to a year, a fine of up to S$5,000 or both.

Similar Instances

Unfortunately, such instances aren’t exactly uncommon.

In fact, as recently as February this year, a drunk 55-year-old unemployed son had pushed his 77-year-old mum down and took a knife to her throat, threatening to kill her after she nagged him about getting a job.

“Later, I will use this knife to hack you to death!” he reportedly said.

The accused eventually noticed that his mum was bleeding, so he called the police and had his mother sent to the hospital for treatment.

Later on, during the court hearing on 7 May, the prosecutor pointed out that the accused had injured his own birth mother.

Although he may not have intentionally wanted to cause her serious harm, her injuries were pretty serious, and as such, he should be sentenced to 14 months in prison.

The accused, on the other hand, was not represented in court. He did, however, beg for a lighter sentence, saying that he greatly regretted his actions.

He was eventually sentenced to a year in prison.
