Every once in a while, I come across a particularly aggravating topic that, to put it crudely, triggers the f*** outta me.

And lest you haven’t latched on, I’m talking about this particular topic: “E-Biker with Son Punches Pedestrian Who Are Blocking the Way, Then Fled the Scene Without His Son”.

Yeah, real trigger-worthy.

For it’s bad enough to initiate violence when you’re in the wrong; it’s even worse when you abandon your own son and flee.

There’re many wrongs in this world that naturally get on one’s nerves, and these e-biker’s actions fall right smack in the middle of the spectrum.

But enough ranting on my part; it’s time to explore the article headline.

E-Biker with Son Punches Pedestrian Who Are Blocking the Way, Then Fled the Scene Without His Son

According to AsiaOnea man was assaulted by a e-bike rider, after the latter had accused him of hogging the road. The rider then fled the scene, leaving his son behind.

According to the report, the man was walking home with his wife on 1 Feb when they heard a sudden horn blast from behind. Dodging by reflex, the couple turned to see an e-bike rider blowing past them, with the latter braking just before collision with another pedestrian walking ahead.

Allegedly unhappy that they had been in his way (even though he was riding on a footpath), the rider alighted from his e-bike and reportedly yelled at the couple. He then resorted to his fists, punching the man and straddling him when he’s down. The rider then continued his assault.

At this point, the victim’s wife tried valiantly to pull the attacker away, but it was to no avail. Surging forward, the rider reportedly kicked at the man’s ribcage, as well as the lower part of his body.

Just then, two female passers-by came by, and they helped to hold the attacker off as the victim’s wife called the police.

Left A Young Boy Behind

The e-bike rider promptly fled the scene, leaving his young son behind.

Having witnessed the entire ordeal first-hand, the child reportedly pleaded with the victim to forgive his father.

“My wife was only able to hold the boy back, who kept begging us to spare his father. At that point, my face was completely covered in blood. Seeing my situation, my wife could only let (the rider) escape,” the victim told Wanbao.

But it seems that in this particular case, leniency only led to malice. When the rider eventually returned for his son, he allegedly tried to trip the victim’s wife.

The victim sustained multiple rib cage fractures, as well as damaged optic nerves that left him with 30 per cent vision in his right eye. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he had to be warded for two days, and was ultimately granted seven days of leave.

Despite spending over $1,000 on medical fees, however, he still considers himself lucky that he didn’t suffer from bleeding in the brain.

The police has since confirmed the incident with AsiaOne, stating that they were alerted on 1 February to a case of voluntarily causing hurt “along the service road of Blk 709 Woodlands Drive”.

Lest one’s not aware, e-bikes are not allowed on footpaths.

Starting this year, new measures will be introduced under the Active Mobility Amendment Bill. Errant riders will face steeper penalties, such as a fine of up to $2,000, six months in jail or both or flouting the law.

So, ladies and gentlemen, please follow the laws and don’t anyhowly ride on footpaths. And don’t abandon your son after you’ve committed a crime. That’s too trigger-worthy.
