As brilliant as Shake Shack’s Jewel outlet is, there’s one singular flaw about it: it’s located way too far for half of Singapore’s taste.
Indeed, for the grander part of the local population, Shake Shack’s everything a playboy is not: difficult to acquire, and even more difficult to relish. Truly, it’s a blasphemy as far as the West side’s concerned.
But a Wise Old Man once said: “Wait, and it shall arrive.” And though I detest the man with a vengeance (because he’s so criminally wise), I believed in his words, and true enough…
The day has come.

Everything About Shake Shack’s 2nd Outlet That’s Opening Tomorrow (7 Feb)
Shake Shack has announced that it will be opening its second outlet at 89 Neil Road to the public this Friday, 7 February, at 7:30 p.m.
And in celebration of the highly-anticipated news, the burger chain will be introducing three novel creations to the hungry public:
The celebrated Chick’n ShackTM as well as two new store-exclusive concretes, Eye of the Tiger and Open Sesame.
The Chick’n ShackTM , for one, is a crispy 100% all natural and antibiotic-free chicken breast slow-cooked in a creamy buttermilk marinade and crisp-fried.
The chicken is then topped with shredded lettuce, pickles and a tangy buttermilk herb mayo, and served on a pillowy potato roll.
“The Chick’n Shack embodies our modern approach to fine casual American cooking,” said Mark Rosati, Shake Shack’s Culinary Director. “It’s about providing a simple, pleasurable, uncomplicated experience, but with high-quality, responsibly sourced ingredients. It wasn’t until we found the chicken sandwich to be as flavourful as our ShackBurger that we knew we’d crafted something special that had earned its place on the menu in 2016. We couldn’t be more excited to finally bring it to Singapore, the first country in Southeast Asia to serve it.”
Well, we’re blessed alright.
The Eye of the Tiger features vanilla custard blended with lychee (wait, simi sai!?), raspberry and shortbread, topped with lime zest.
The Open Sesame is vanilla custard blended with black sesame paste and plain vanilla brownies, topped with black sesame seeds and gold-dusted chocolate.
The Chick’n ShackTM ($9.20) is available exclusively at 89 Neil Road from 7 to 9 February, and subsequently at both shacks (the other at Jewel Changi Airport) from 10 February onwards. The novel concretes ($7.50 for single scoop, $9.50 for double scoops), on the other hand, will be exclusive to their 89 Neil Road outlet.

Housed within a three-story building that was previously home to the Eng Aun Tong factory where Tiger Balm was made, the 89 Neil Road Shack’s unique and charming design is inspired by the vibrant surrounding Chinatown and iconic colorful Peranakan architecture. The historic building retains the original neoclassical bones balanced by modern details such as soft pink and mint hues, rose-gold accents and pink terrazzo.
Singaporean artist, Sam Lo, created a striking façade mural inspired by the neighborhood with auspicious Chinese symbols like the Lucky Bat and Qilin, Malay roof eaves and Peranakan tiling, as well as Art Deco flourishes.
And in support of the local creative scene, 5% of sales from the Shack Attack concrete will go to Very Special Arts Singapore (VSA), a non-profit organization providing opportunities for the disabled through arts.

It officially opens on Friday (7 Feb) at 7.30pm.
One can only wonder: with the Wuhan virus outbreak, would there still be a crowd?
