You may be aware of the fatal crash involving a bus travelling from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur (KL).
In the latest development about this unfortunate accident, two of the passengers involved in the crash are suing the bus company.
Here is what happened.
Couple Allegedly Went to the Hospital on Their Own After the Accident
According to Shin Min Daily, the bus driving from Singapore towards KL met with an accident on Monday (10 July 2023) at around 5 am in the morning.
As a result, two people lost their lives, and many others were severely injured.
Amongst the victims of the accident were the Spanish passenger, Raul, and his Hong Kong girlfriend, Li Ting.
Raul is 34 years old and a researcher, while Li is 31 years old and a consultant.
Speaking to The Straits Times, the couple told the national paper that they had planned to visit Pahang National Park and attend a friend’s wedding.
Unfortunately, they met with the accident on their way to their trip to Malaysia.
According to the couple, they had to make their own way to the hospital after the accident and then head over to the police station to collect their belongings which were left behind.
They also had to fork out additional money of their own to take a taxi to JL.
Raul also divulged that the bus company in question, KKKL Express Malaysia, did not contact him after the accident or extend any support or help to them.
To add insult to injury, Li shares the incredulous instructions from KKKL Express Malaysia.
The bus company told them to claim insurance from their travel insurance company. If they wanted to get insurance from the bus company, they would have to hire a lawyer and wait at least one or two years to get a resolution.
We know that processes in other parts of the world may be slow, but is this crossing the line?
Li seems to think so, as she expressed that it was “unacceptable” that the bus company wanted the couple to spend money to hire a lawyer to claim compensation for the accident.
Due to this incident, the couple has forked out some money to hire a lawyer and ask for compensation from the bus company.
The lawyer representing the pair revealed that if the claim for their leg injuries is successful, they may be awarded between S$6,230 and $14,156 in damages.
